@DraftExpress: 21 player @usabasketball Pan-Am roster cut down to 16. Monte Morris, Malcolm Hill, Isaac Haas, Josh Scott, Ricardo Gathers first released.

That sucks but knowing Monte, he'll use it as motivation.

Damn, that just adds to the chip on his shoulder

Trimble and Van Vleet are both really good. Monte's game isn't super flashy, so it might have been harder for him to make an impression in a short amount of time. Glad he's our guy.

I think it really comes down to what you want in your point guard. If you want a floor general and game manager, Monte is your guy. If you want flash and high scoring out of that position, you go with someone like Trimble.

That's fine, but what about Van Vleet and Cousins, who are still there. Van Vleet I can maybe understand, but not Cousins.

Monte is obviously very good, but I think a lot of people are forgetting what Fred Holberg did for PG's while at ISU. I'm not the least bit surprised that he didn't make the team over those guys. Those guys are also very good and it's hard to compare them in their offense to that of Monte under ISU's offense.

This is what may keep him at ISU for 2016-17. The NBA has moved to using their PG's as primary scoring options, not just game managers.

So far, Monte has been more of a game manager. If he doesn't show more scoring ability this year, he may have to come back in 2016 where he would be forced to be more of a score first PG.

How Monte plays may change with Prohm though. I think Prohm's two NBA PG's have been scorers.

I think Monte will play in the NBA for a long time but I don't think he's a first rounder which will probably keep him here for 4 years. jmo

i'm looking forward to monte:

1)being at isu for 4 years
2) getting a triple double against tad boyle in november, and
3) setting the all time assists record at iowa state.

The fact that Isaiah Cousins made it over Monte upsets me a bit.
It's not that surprising considering that they play different positions. Morris wasn't competing with Cousins for a spot. He was competing with Melo Trimble, who would have been a 1st round draft pick had he gone to the NBA and Fred VanVleet, who is another excellent PG with a ton of experience.

Disappointing. I can't really think of anyone else I'd rather have as a point guard.

No, not the fact that he beat monte out for the PG spot. More the fact that he is still competing for the team, and MM isnt. I just don't like Cousins. haha

Are you basically calling Morris a "system QB"?

I am just happy the Gesell wasn't invited as that would have hurt so much when he was selected over Monte.:peek:

There were four PGs competing and Trimble wasn't going anywhere with Turgeon as one of the coaches. Brown is a pro and Van Vleet is a very good player. It doesn't mean much other than the coaches decided to go with Van Vleet over Morris.
I remember reading on ESPN how Mario Chalmers and Sheron Collins were cut and Jay Wright was one of the coaches and he kept his own players and when they played Villanova in the tourney they crushed them and talked smack to Wright all game for cutting them.

I'm sure Monte will use this as motivation.

Trimble would have been a second rounder.

Monte is a bit small for the NBA. He still needs to put on some weight in order to be able to absorb the physicality of that league. He could get by with his current frame if he had that quick first step and was able to create and knock down his own shots. He isn't to that point yet though. He may get there but it will take 4 years at ISU and a lot more work on his end. He's a great collegiate player and I wouldn't trade him for anyone else at ISU. He just is what he is. His style doesn't translate very well to the current NBA which has become more of a 1 v 1 type league rather than team basketball. JMO

Bummed for Monte, he doesn't get nearly enough national love.

I hate Cousins, but he is probably in the running for a three-point specialist on that team. Some one should've sent the coaches the video of his second half vs. ISU at the end of the season.
