I am disappointed at this point with Rhoads no matter what happens. A firm "not interested" should come from someone who is all in. Good luck to him preaching the all in to players and fans when even he is sniffing around.

Not a day goes by that you dont make me face palm on a post you make.

Pitt-Post Gazette seems to be cooling on Rhoads speculation...

Coming Into Focus a Bit - Friday Morning

For some reason when people outside the state of Iowa that don't know anything about the ISU Football program make comments like "he still has some work to do at ISU and isn't ready to leave yet" rubs me the wrong way.

1. They know what CPR is thinking and what his priorities are?
2. They know what his objectives and goals are at ISU?
3. Is CPR some kind of mechanic who is doing tuneups and then moving right on to the next job?

Todd Graham up and bolted at Pitt for ASU for basically similar money, for a program on a similar level, etc... What does that say about the job at Pitt? Not much.

To me it is just irritating to read comments like that. It's as if CPR is putting in a couple years at his homestate school like it is some kind of court ordered punishment and as soon as he has put in the required time he is going to be running for the exits for just about any other job out there.

How they come to those kind of conclusions I will never know.

I tend to agree. I would be very interested to hear what he is saying to recruits (or maybe this is a dead period for contact with them). If I were being recruited, I would want to know whether he is even talking to other teams, especially since he seems like the unusual guy who is truly "all in" for ISU.

I don't think CPR is leaving for Pitt right now but if he interviews, my dream of having him spend the rest of his career here is completely gone. It won't happen. If he will talk to a struggling program with little support at this point, he will leave for someone else when/if he achieves the success we think he will achieve here. It almost feels a little like the WVU situation with RR. He talked to Bama, turned them down, then left the following year.

If he will not talk to a struggling program that gave him some of his best memories as a coordinator and that he has connections with my dream of him being a decent human being with a heart is completely gone.

No offense, but I'm hoping your dream dies instead of mine.

Any former ally who would give the cold shoulder to an old friend when they've bean beaten and left for dead isn't someone I want leading the team.

Your notion isn't grounded in reality. Are you honestly saying that if a former organization who helped move your career forward asked you for a courtesy interview, you wouldn't take it?

Those are exactly the sort of calls I want CPR taking: the no chance schools stretching themselves for the big apple, not the well-heeled, heavily supported "great" opportunities.

Pitt is in sad shape right now - a complete mess. Good for CPR for lending a sympathetic ear, and his reputation to the coaching search of fallen friendly institution.

Reading a chat as tea leaves foretelling future flight is not logical.

If you really thought that, you are delusional. How many times does that happen? Not often anymore. This is a business arrangement between Rhoads and ISU. I think he really likes it here and is happy. But it is still business, at the end of the day. Always keep that in mind.

I think everyone here talking in absolutes is crazy.

People saying that CPR would NEVER leave for Pitt are crazy. People saying that ISU has nothing to offer compared to Pitt are crazy.

Nothing in College Sports is absolute. Both programs provide multiple pros and cons.

Pitt is located in a better recruiting location than ISU, larger donor base and more $$. CPR obviously has some ties to the program as a former DC. Realistically it would probably be easier to compete regularly in the ACC than in the B12 and its still a AQ BCS job. Potentiall pay raise could be offered although this is not certian depending on ISU contract negotiations. There are probably some others as well but just a few.

ISU also has perks. Family is close by, and moving would mean uprooting his family/kids. Fan support is through the roof and he has HIS players here and as he said they "bought in hook line and sinker". $$ is being invested in the program, and new TV revenue and increasing season ticket sales just increases these #'s. He has sold the players, fans and really the entire nation that he is "All In" here and it has worked and he is reaping the rewards.

I personally do not see Pitt holding that many CLEAR advantages when you consider the big picture unless he prefers the area and feels that the competition in the ACC will make the road to success easier than the B12. I especially feel that short term ISU has more advantages, he should be at the point in the program where success is at his finger tips, going into yr 4 with his players/his system and a TON on momentum on and off the field. Plus if he does leave now the "All In" sales pitch is gone.

If I were him I would "Listen" to Pitt as well if nothing else just to put the thought in JP's mind that " I have other options and I want to be fairly compensated for my work". As others have said it is really negotiations 101. I beleive the JP already knows this and he will make it right.

For those worried about JP pinching pennies his track record with coaches doesnt suggest that he will skimp, GMcD, Chizz and others all were extended with little to no success. Why wouldnt JP repay someone who is actually doing well? I trust that he will

Maybe you haven't heard... he just signed a 10 year deal...

I hope you can live with yourself if CPR comes back next year.

I get your point, I would be mad as hell if he does choose to leave. Mad at him and JP both. I would actually be more upset than when we got Chizzed.

The only difference is I am giving CPR the benefit of the doubt, understanding that whether fans like it or not this is his JOB. He has to be able to separate the emotional part from the business part (to a certian degree) and not let emotions make him make a stupid decision.

Keep you negativity toward the guy in your own mind until you know what his decision is.

Have you really not read the other threads about the new 10 year contract that CPR just signed.

Why's that? There are multiple reports that Rhoads was willing to listen. At the end of the day he decided to stay, why do you have to be angry about that?

Yeah, and how many of those were people in the know versus fans and wanna be experts?
