I am shocked that after 12 pages that the driving hasn’t come up…left lane, on ramps, four-way stops. We really enjoy living here and make the most of it. If I’m allowed one modest complaint, it’s the terrible drivers. A theory of a Chicago transplant here is that it’s all the out-state people moving to the TC. I also thought I had an advantage, because drivers Ed was taught in school; though it sounds like that’s not the case in IA anymore.
Every state seems to think they have the worst drivers. In my experience, Florida as a state is hard to beat. I did hear that 235 in Des Moines is going to get some of those stop lights on the on ramps in the future.

My biggest peave these days is the A-hole that sits in front of me at the red light... then it turns green and they don't move for about 10 seconds, because they are looking at their F*@king Phone!!!! This happens in most places I would guess.

Yeah, and if you do eventually honk at them to get their asses moving they more times than not flip you off. The fact that the two cars ahead of you are already half a block past the intersection should clue you in that I didn't just immediately honk at you when the light turned green.

We moved to Minnesota this year and I've noticed a few Iowa State-related things.

*I see more Iowa State apparel now than I did up here 10 years ago.

*Hawkeye apperal outnumbers Iowa State apparel 10-1+.

*I see a lot of Gopher sweatshirts but maybe 3 cars with Gopher license plates. It's not "a thing" up here like it is in Iowa.

*When we lived in Iowa for a decade, I did not meet one single Minnesota alumni who lived in Ames/Des Moines. I know they exist, but that seems on purpose :)

*Half this town went to NDSU, or at least they're the proudest fan base

*College football exists, but it's a niche activity. It's weird to not be surronded by collegeite football fans.

Yep. My wife and inlaws are Minnesotans. It's so much more pro sports centric than college. Hockey even more so than football in some ways as well.

I know more Gopher Hockey fans than Gopher alums/football fans

I actually think that MN drivers are pretty good. Yes, the left lane thing is tough for Minnesotans to figure out. However, I prefer MN drivers to Iowa drivers. Iowa drivers aren't terrible but, for whatever reason, they are terrible at driving in parking lots. Maybe it's that the parking lots are designed badly.

My impression from the two main places I've lived as an adults were that Iowa drivers are bad at driving due to incompetence, and Boston drivers are bad at driving because they're ********.

I break the river rule and head over to Minneapolis every so often. St. Paul restaurant scene is so much better than it was even just a few years ago.

I'll admit, when we visited to wander around the TC area recently, in terms of city area I enjoyed walking around St. Paul the most, around the library and such. Reminded me a bit of a miniature Copley Square in Boston.

As the crow flies it's about five miles but there's a lot of low ground between my house and there. At night you can see the stadium lights quite easily. Can also see the AFA chapel from my hood during the day.

Do you know if your brother belong to the Alumni Association? There is a very good group out here. They have game watches every week.

He is not a member, but I will ask him if he wants to be alerted as to when they have game watches.

If he's on Meta :) tell him to search for Iowa State Alumni of Southern Colorado. You don't have to be a member to join the group or attend the game watches.

I'll say this: Minnesotans do not know how to drive in the left lane of the interstate. They clog it up and get passed on their right.
Took a family vacation this summer and my wife drove quite a bit. She didn’t like the fact I stayed in the right lane on the interstate unless I was passing. Whenever she drove, she stayed in the left lane the entire time.

I would correct her, but it was a 45 hour round trip drive. It was long enough as it was… no need to make it seem longer!

Not exactly sure.
Had to have a business lunch at the St Paul grill once. Dude had a salad and an expresso, I had an iced tea. 20 years ago the bill was close to 60 bucks before a tip. Now that would be a c note.

Actually a documented problem for traffic engineers now! Just one more dumb thing for them to try to design away.
Having lived in 4 states I can say there are differences but bad drivers are bad drivers and they are all over!
