It's difficult enough to get TV revenue for our games when we're in a conference. Anything televised on Mediacom, FCS or CTN for MBB and FB net us no money. We only had four regular season games that would have provided us any TV money last year: Iowa - FSN, Kansas - VS., Nebraska - FSN, Oklahoma State - ABC.

Unless you think our football or basketball programs could sign guaranteed deals for television, we'd lose a LOT of money coming in. Not to mention the money we do get from the limited revenue sharing that takes place in the Big 12.

I agree with what your'e getting at. However, if we were an independent the teams we scheduled would be entirely different than our current line ups. It would be tough and we would likely not make what we do as part of the big 12 conference. However, the revenues would be from different places. We may get paid to come play somewhere like UNI is paid to come play at Iowa or here. I don't think we'd be as well off as we are in the conference, but it's not like it would go to zero. Too many variables to get an accurate idea of what would play out. If we go schedule a Mt West team and it goes on the mountain west network I assume we would get a cut. If we play ND and it's on NBC we get a cut.

We would be bottom dwellers in any major conference in the only 2 sports that matter.
I'll be sure to alert Coaches Fennelly, Jackson, Johnson-Lynch, Ihmels, and Martens. They need to be instructed to stop winning, effective immediately.

The thing that really sucks for us is:

MSU is similar to ISU in a lot of ways, land grant school, overshadowed in theri own state, mediocre football, problem is they are just lucky enough to be a charter memeber, no one would want them either if they were redrawing the conferences. But good for them, they get to be the parasite on the belly of the B10.

East Lansing is a dump too, I have been there several times, anyone saying Ames is a dump compared to East Lansing has never been within 100 miles of Ames.

MSU may be lucky to have been there long enough, but they're no charter member. They've been a member only since 1950 and, excluding Penn St, are the latest addition. Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Chicago are the charter members, founding the conference in 1896.

Not a single one of those doesn't operate in the red.

It sucks to hear, but, yeah, that makes them significantly less important than football and men's basketball. Significantly. You ask me if I would take a consistent top half of the conference team in MBB and FB, or a juggernaut in olympic sports, and I'll take MBB and FB every time.

The big 12 needs a network.
When ISU plays in I.C. agains Iowa...Iowa gets 3 million bucks that they don't have to share with ISU...ISU gets a gate percentage but NOTHING from the BTN.. I

I figured this out by taking the 22 million Iowa gets from the BTN and dividing it with 7 home games.....the ISU game nets Iowa 3 million from the BTN. ISU gets NONE of it...of course I am not even sure if the game was on the BTN...

If Baylor and Kansas State can stay in a BCS conference, you better believe that ISU can, too. I think people forget that there are other schools in the Big 12 that would be in a worse position than ISU. Gotta love the offseason!

It isn't just about being in a BCS conference, it is also about who we play. And I for one would much rather be playing the MU's and NU's of the world over the Houston's and TCU's of the world. But hey, thats me. I am sure that TCU would be a HUGE draw when they are in Ames, just like Baylor.

uhh, you do realize TCU is a top 25 caliber football team right? They've only had 10 losses since 2005. They are MUCH better than Baylor, and would come in and kick our ***** by much more than MU on a regular basis. Put them in a BCS qualifying conference and they will become a serious contender.

I'm much less worried about our gate revenue than the conference tv revenue. The Big 10 isn't rich because of high attendance. Nobody goes to Indiana games but their revenue eclipses ours buy a long ways.

The only two sports that will ever matter are men's hoops and Football. He is exactly right.

I would take winning seasons in football and NCAA tournaments to have our other sports never win at anything.

I'm so glad that this time just so happens to be the page in ISU where the Low times match up in football and Mens bball....This point has happened at other schools as well throughout this past decade such as Colorado, Missouri etc....it just so happens that this situation happens now for us....its just another perennial boot to the stones...

We just won a bowl game against a team from the Big10 and in the process jumped another bigXII school to get there. And we finished with a winning record and beat Nebraska AT NEBRASKA. If this is a low point for ISU football for you then you haven't followed ISU for very long. It was basically one of our top 5 seasons ALL TIME.

Last time I checked we are coming off one of our 3 ever bowl wins.

No argument on basketball if you're talking modern era.

I hate to break this to everyone, but ISU offers nothing to a major conference. We are not good in any major sports, we do not have a lot of revenue, and have almost nothing to offer for a TV audience. ISU is a mid major school that is in a major conference for now.

Really? If we're such a mid major school, why in the **** did we win a bowl game against a BCS school? Why in the **** did we beat a BCS school that finished Top 15 AT their place? Did you see the post-Nebraska video as the crowning highlight in the season ending montage on CBS? Jesus Christ. ISU is not a mid-major school. Mid major schools don't fill the stadium when they're 2-9. You need to quit cheering for ISU. ****.
