I am not 70+. Not really that close. President Parks retired in 1986. That was 35 years ago. Anyone with a pulse and any sort of knowledge knows that Jack Trice Stadium, Hilton Coliseum, Scheman, Fisher, CY Stephens, etc. all built under Parks. Johnny Majors, Earle Bruce, Johnny Orr, all hired during Parks tenure. President Parks launched the Modern Era as he led us from the Old Armory and Clyde Williams Field to Hilton Coliseum and Jack Trice Stadium.
I lived a block down Lincoln Way from the beautiful President's manse where Parks lived. Do ISU Presidents still reside there?

I wonder why Jimmie Dean Walden with his Zero Wins and All Losses Against Iowa and his ZERO WIN SEASON doesn't merit entry on Mt Flushmore?
My List...BVD....Jim CryMore Criner....Ken Trickey and Jimmie Dean Walden.

Does Dan Gable deserve honorable mention? One of the all time great ISU athletes. But also left and built a dynasty at our biggest rival.
You have to remember that ISU turned down Dan Gable for head wrestling coach and kept an old and out of date Harold Nichols....IT WORKED OUT REAL WELL FOR TOE....
Now didn't it!

He is also brought us 5-6 years of ****** basketball by digging us a giant hole we couldn't get out of.

Now this is just silly. WM will not and should not be on ISU's own Mount Rushmore, but he only had 3 seasons as our head coach and made the postseason (one NIT, one NCAA with a first round victory) in 2 of them. Even in his last season he still finished with a winning record (16-14). How on earth can you rationally try and blame him for the utter ineptitude of the Greg McDermott era?

Time for the antihero version of the Rushmore discussion:

Donnie Duncan: Took over a solid program from Earle Bruce and piddled it away. Left to sell insurance(?) after accomplishing nothing.

Bruce Van de Velde: Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce

Jim Criner: Started the infamous losing streak to UI. Cheated. Still lost. Come on, man.

Steven Leath: *plane crash sounds*

Fire away!
I though DD became AD for Oklahoma. Am I misremembering?

Cylyte in another thread was saying that McDermott's issue wasn't coaching so apparently there's a few stuck to McD like the folks who hold McCarney in higher regard than CMC because he beat Iowa.

CyLyte is a f*cking moron who goes out of his way to be as obnoxious and unpleasant to everyone as humanly possible. There are reasons why he is one of the few posters I've put on ignore.

You're joking right? McDermott never had a fair shot at doing anything with the loss of scholarships he faced in his first years at ISU that were a direct result of how the program was handled under Morgan. I wont argue that Morgan had on-court success while he was here, but he was a horrible leader of the program and set us back quite a bit.

No, I'm not joking. Players like Wesley Johnson, Lucca Staiger, and many others that all left/transferred early happened under Greg McDermott. How is WM responsible for that? Greg's best season at ISU happened in his first season, when all of these supposedly program-damaging loss of scholarships would have been felt the most. I'm not even going to argue that he is a bad coach when you look at his success at UNI and Creighton, but he was downright awful at ISU and that cannot be argued otherwise with a straight face.

Well agree to disagree. I am in by no means saying Greg would have been successful here had he had all the resources available, but I'm not debating McDermott. However, my opinion of Morgan is pretty low knowing how little he managed our program.

I don’t think anyone is arguing Wayne was a good coach or a better coach than McD. There’s a reason each are where they are post-ISU. But McD absolutely was a failure here. There’s a reason his style at Creighton is completely different than it was at ISU. He tried to be UNI but with more talent at ISU. It was a complete and utter failure. He was wrong in trying to do that, and it seems like he figured that out. It’s too bad ISU has to pay for this lesson, but that’s the way it goes. If in years 2, 3, and 4 you win 4 conference games each year, you have failed without qualification.

Serious question, I attended isu from 90-94. I met Jim a few times & he was always a nice guy. I always felt sorry for him as it was obviously he had NO support from the administration. He had some success in the late 80’s , then we stunk it up during my time in Ames.. seemed like injuries & just apathy set in, & he gave up.. for some people older than me?? Why did isu hire Duncan when cooper obviously was a prime candidate & would have stepped in? & the criner deal? Still boggles me mine.

The fanbase wanted John Cooper by the AD & The Prez was afraid that John Cooper would cheat and get into trouble with the NCAA.....

....That sure didn't keep ISU from hiring Jim "I'm a walking ncaa violation" Criner..
