I'm confused. I thought Thug Life was Scott Christopherson but the context was Jake Sullivan. Who are you referring to?

Second question: What did this person do?

Oh God, I'm getting old and Senile. I knew I shouldn't be posting after victory drinks. LOL. I meant Jake. My Apologies to Scotty C.

My memory is getting blurry with age. I was referring to Jake and "War" interview, and his mentoring seeming to send recruits everywhere but ISU. He just doesn't seem to do a lot to help ISU basketball, if I'm wrong, I wish we'd hear more about the good things he does.

I know he can't funnel players here, but it almost seems the contrary.

I figured that was what you were referencing. And I've never dealt with Jake other than for him speaking to my men's group about his mission work. (And saying hi at Kingdom Hoops when I run into him). I have loved hearing him talk with Jess Settles and the guys on Mondays on KXNO. He's a true Cyclone, and hated Eustachy when he played for him but talks about how that has helped him in his life. I think his life just took a lot of different turns and he is growing every year.

I find it weird we (ISU) have such stringent requirements but then you look at NC and they have Jerseys retired every year. I get that they have had better players but come on we have to honor the guys we've had.

Career attempts

Sullivan 637 (1 every 6.3 minutes played)
Mitrou-Long: 633 (1 every 4.6 minutes played)

While Naz has played less minutes, he's got the same amount of shots and probably played pretty close to the same number of offensive possessions. (Jake's first 3 years under Larry ISU usually was one of the slower tempo teams in the country. Naz's first 3.5 years ISU was usually one of the fastest teams in the country.)

3 best shooters I've seen: Jake, Dedric, Tyrus.
Best looking shot: Matt
Best clutch shooter: Naz

That's a tough one. Thomas has the prettiest shot for sure. Dedric and Tyrus could both make contested threes with no problem. Sullivan was probably the most automatic when open.

Give me Tyrus.

UNC has only retired 8 jerseys.

They "honor" the others. Which I think is pretty cool and think we should do. On one side you have the retired jerseys and the other you have the honored for guys like Melvin, Naz, Matt, Brackins, etc.

They honor every person that is a consensus All American IIRC

I think some schools retire Jerseys and retire Numbers. Numbers being the more prestigious. This is how I wish ISU would handle it.

Retired numbers IMO: the ones hanging with 31. Retired jerseys, a few more, especially recently. Ejim for being an All-american, leading Big 12 scorer, academic all-american, graduating Summa cum laude, nice guy, great ambassador for the university etc.

Melvin has A LOT of things beyond his great accomplishments in basketball to recommend him.

Which highlights that we're stingy with it compared to even blue bloods.

Fizer, Tinsley and Niang would be. Ejim, Kane and Morris I'm guessing will all be on some AA lists but not consensus.

Monte is going to hold more ISU records than anybody, silly not to honor him if they don't. Whether graduation is required or not we have prime candidates

I happen to agree. Big fan of Ejim and he got everything out of his ability but I wouldn't hang his jersey for the reasons you've mentioned.

I also think the Tinsley was the best PG I've ever seen at ISU and I wouldn't hang his jersey.

Fizer, Niang, and Monte are 3 that need to be hung.

Need to set up bringing in some top recruits for when they happen, 100% we hang Georges and Monte.

Sure, he really didn't do anything at ISU, but I really liked Hallice Cook's shot. It was just nice looking.

Melvin could still be eventually inducted into the ISU Hall of Fame for his accomplishments, even if his jersey is never hung/retired. That would be a significant, and fitting honor.

Tinsley and Fizer are both in the HOF, but likely won't have jersey hung over graduation issue.

Niang and Morris have to go up at the appropriate time.

Well I just grabbed a ticket for the Okey State game. Couldn't fathom not seeing Matt. Naz. and Monte before they are gone. Hopefully Hilton is full throat. Excited for the homecoming!

UNC (not that I want to copy everything that they do, but might as well start somewhere) actually has objective criteria for how they deal with this. According to here...

http://keepingitheel.com/basketball/retired-jerseys-2/

"Retired" Criteria

Oscar Robertson Trophy, formerly known as the United States Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Year
National Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year
Sporting News Player of the Year
John R. Wooden Award
Naismith College Player of the Year

"Honored" Criteria

MVP of a National Championship winning team
Member of a Gold Medal Winning Olympic Team
First- or second-team All America
ACC Player of the Year
NCAA Tournament MOP

Who from ISU's history would be in those categories -- substituting ACC for Big Eight and Big XII of course, if we were going to work off those standards as a starting point?
