Although it's a different sport, I got a chuckle out of the fact that right below this thread is a thread titled, "What would you do different than Chizik?"

I too find that hilarious given that most of the "experts" in on the board would pee their pants and hide under their beds if they actually had to face what these coaches do on a daily basis.

Actually, I've coached a D1 athletic team. And you don't see me griping about McD or Chizik, either, do you?

I have strong opinions on the team, and I've stated them several times. I've met McDermott before and I have the utmost respect for him. I wish him nothing but success, not only because I think he is a good man but because he is the coach of the Cyclones and I want everybody to be successful who is coaching our teams, just like I wanted Wayne to be successful.

Also, as I said before in this thread, I really don't think anything said on this board is significant in any real sense. We all love the Clones so we want to talk about them. Frankly if I was paid 600k a year to coach basketball hopefully I'd be able to handle what some random dude says on the internet.

I don't like it when people fly off the handle and I think if anyone seriously thinks our staff should be fired they need their head checked. McDermott doesn't need me to rub lotion on his butt and tell him it's perfect and special and better than anybody else's. Just because I'm critical at this point doesn't mean I don't want him to succeed or that I don't support him.

That being said... I think that 11th place in the Big 12 is a failure by any conceivable evaluation. We're worse than Nebraska. We're worse than TT. We're worse than Mizzou (who has had just as many if not more problems than we have).

I like all of the guys on the staff and especially McDermott. He deserves at least 5 years (and probably 6) to build his program. I will not change my mind on that at any point. I just don't think the guy is above criticism just because he is our coach and I don't think it makes me a bad fan if I'm skeptical.

Bryce, what exactly did you expect this year? Most analysist thought we'd finish right where we did. Those same analysists are saying give McDermott time, he'll make you proud.

You're entitled to your opinion. Mine is that it's way premature to be leveling any criticism at this coaching staff. They're really still picking up the pieces from the last coaching change. The criticisim is silly and does nothing at all to help our program or fan base. If you're so mad about it, go talk to the coach directly and don't hide behind an internet no name.

I got an e-mail last night from a former poster on this site who no longer posts because people started picking on him any time he voiced an opinon. He's gotten a chuckle out of the recent GMac melt down threads and compares it to the DMac meltdown threads we saw a year ago. But you know DMac had a heck of lot longer ride before this !@## started happening.

I think it's a shame that a Cyclone fan doesn't feel welcome on this site. I've got pretty thick skin so what ever you all think or say isn't really going to bother me much. I think we could have winning records and we'd still find things to argue about.

Whew.. had to get that off my chest...:growl5cj:

I'm not mad about it, and talking to the coach about it would do no good. If it makes you feel any better I have called the call in show with questions before.

I'm not mad. I don't get pissed off about basketball or anything else in regard to the Cyclones. But I do get disappointed and regardless of how the analysts said we would do this year I'm sure the coaches and the team are disappointed with how it's gone as well. I don't feel there is anything wrong with stating this, unless it's done ad nauseum.

I'm sorry there is someone that felt like he couldn't post here anymore. That is always unfortunate. I feel as though it's much to early to be making any broad, sweeping assumptions about the program under McDermott because there is a lot that needs done before there is stability around here. I still maintain and will continue to do so that there is nothing wrong with being skeptical or critical about certain things right now. I don't think the purpose of CycloneFanatic is to be a full time Greg's ego stroking entity.

That being said, I like where we are going. I have hope for next season. That's good enough for me right now.

We'll have to agree to disagree about certain things, but I think we're all on the same side here and we want nothing more than to see McD succeed at a very high level. My hope is that he coaches here for the next 20 years and provides a level of stability and success that the program has never seen.

The sad thing is that those analysts were only correct because of unanticipatable injury and illness. Had Jiri and WJ been completely healthy from Day One, this would have been a better team, both in terms of talent and ability, and cohesiveness. You just don't take your star off the practice court for days and weeks at a time and expect to flow well.

Anyone who cares to blame McDermott for that is a mor--er, doesn't know what they are talking about.

Well, if I keep winning, I hope to be there for the full 30 years that are allowed. I just got a five year extension. If not, I'll just start over, probably with Iowa State again. You have to win in the first three years, as that is the length of the contract. Not many good recruits in Iowa State's pipeline and you don't start out with many recruiting points. Also, it's difficult at first to get to know your players, as their names are things like "C #33" and "PG #12". But when you start recruiting, you get real names. I also coach in the NFL, mostly the Cowboys. Now I'm itching to get home and coach a few games tonight.:biglaugh:
