Could we at least make sure Iowa gets a janitors closet for a locker room if they get selected there?

And also, to all cyclone fans that bought tickets to this I assume it goes without saying that you must only sell tickets to Iowa fans for 10x the market value.

You don't think ISU wound have a home court advantage if our tourney game were in DSM?

The reason we cant play there is because we are the host. The fact that we are hosting does not give us an advantage. We have the same advantage as Iowa does by playing in Des Moines, but one team can play there and one cant. My point is, host schools should be able to play at their site, so long as it is not in their home facility.

UNI has a major hard-on right now for getting into the Des Moines market, both athletically and academically. Around 80% of UNI's athletic contributions come from a 50 mile radius around Black Hawk County and right now, instead of trying to strengthen that, they are spending all of their marketing money and resources in Des Moines to try to get UNI alums down there.

It's the worst strategy ever and, hopefully, the new AD rectifies that. There is enough money in Black Hawk, Grundy, and Buchanan counties to run the department. They need to try to lock down that 8 county area and make it UNI country.

Obviously not. UNI is smart to expand their advancement efforts into Des Moines based on income alone. At a glance, the collective median household incomes of Black Hawk, Grundy, and Buchanan counties are $37k, $39k, and $38k based on the 2000 Census. Counties Polk and Dallas have household median incomes of $46k and $48k.

Shocking! There's more money in the Metro!!

We have all session tickets for the games. We plan to be in our Cardinal & Gold all weekend. If the Hawkeyes DO end up playing there, I will make sure to tell every one of them that I see "you're welcome", and then cheer (loudly) for whoever is playing against them...
because **** Iowa.

You'd skip the Clones on TV to go boo the Hawkeyes? That's some serious hate.

For those folks who did pre-purchase thru ISU and won't be attending because who wants to watch Iowa/KU, how do you plan on selling your tix? StubHub, CF, word of mouth in DSM, etc?

For those of you that think that this is just a click of your fingers and the tournament is ready to go. The attached is the regional manual for the 2016 NCAA Womens Tournament. That thing is 156 pages of everything you need to know about the tournament. I know for a fact that the basis for both the mens and womens tournament manuals are exactly the same, except for a few key details that are unique to each site and tournament.

http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/2016 WBB Regional Host Operations Manual.pdf

In the manual there is a ... that talks about the role of the host school/conference:
Role of the Host Institution/Conference

The support, commitment and involvement of the host institution/conference, its key staff members and local
media are essential elements in hosting a successful Division I Women’s Basketball Championship preliminary
round.
The host institution/conference is the local entity responsible for making arrangements for the preliminary-round
competition. By submitting a bid, each host institution/conference has agreed to provide the services and assistance in connection with the various activities related to the preliminary round.
The responsibilities of the host institution/conference are defined herein. The games management, media and
marketing activities associated with the preliminary-round competition are to be administered and approved by the women’s basketball staff on behalf of the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee.
The host institution/conference will work in collaboration with the women’s basketball staff to ensure that the
mission of the women’s basketball committee and the championship is preserved. The women’s basketball committee believes that the most successful host institutions/conferences are those that emphasize service,
communication, promotion and marketing of the event and fiscal responsibility.
Each prospective host institution/conference must submit a proposed budget for approval by the NCAA. Budget
adjustments are permitted, if approved in advance in writing by the NCAA staff. Any expenses in excess of the
approved amounts will be the responsibility of the host institution/conference even if estimated receipts are
exceeded.
As part of the communication and planning process, host institution/conference staff will be required to submit
monthly marketing and weekly ticket sales reports and meet all deadlines as established by the women’s basketball staff. The women’s basketball staff will also communicate with host institution/conference representatives on a consistent basis.

Main host roles/responsibilities:
Tournament Director.
This individual MUST BE the director of athletics/commissioner of the host institution/conference and shall maintain ultimate responsibility for the operation of the event. Signed bid specifications, competition venue agreement, bid response questionnaire, proposed budget and hotel agreements from the prospective host institution/conference, shall be authorized by the tournament director.

Tournament Manager.

The tournament director shall appoint a knowledgeable person, preferably with extensive experience in event/tournament administration and games management, to serve in this position. The tournament manager shall ensure that the championship policies are implemented and followed in the administration of the tournament. Specific responsibilities shall include direction and supervision of competition venue arrangements, ticket sales, development of participant information, oversight of the marketing program, security, lodging, transportation, financial administration and adherence to the preliminary-round policies outlined in the NCAA operations manual.

Marketing Director.

This individual shall be responsible for the promotion and marketing of the championship event. All marketing/promotion plans should focus on the sale of tickets and attendance. The marketing director will be required to submit monthly marketing/promotions reports. All marketing/promotion plans and collateral material must be submitted to the NCAA for approval.

Media Coordinator.

This individual SHALL NOT BE the primary media contact for the women’s basketball program. Responsibilities shall include oversight of the online credential program, securing and training a media coordination staff, planning and supervision of media work areas, coordination of all news conferences, lodging, transportation, statistical services, wireless services and telecommunication needs for media representatives.(Refer to Appendix 14)

Facility Liaison.

The facility shall appoint a knowledgeable person to serve in this position. Specific responsibilities shall include assisting the NCAA with direction and supervision of facility arrangements, security and assistance in the development of participant information.

I received my tickets yesterday. Looking back I paid $260 each for All Session ticket (3 tickets) and my seats are terrible. Section 317 Row Q. Look to be highest possible seats in arena. How were seats assigned?

Huh? I'm pretty sure if Iowa ends up as a 1, 2 or 3 seed they created an easy path for themselves.

Nothing like playing in DSM for Iowa or Iowa State. I don't know where the other first round games are, but you would obviously prefer playing in Des Moines rather than playing a Northwestern State in Aurburn Hills, Michigan or in Spokane, Washington, or something like that. Thank Iowa State for that. I know I'd thank Iowa if it were the other way round.

It'll be interesting to see. Iowa will have a ton of fans there. But I think there will be a ton of Iowa State fans there too and I sure as hell am not going to cheer for Iowa. In fact, the 16 seed that plays them will be my 2nd favorite team. Same thing goes with Kansas.

Don't get me wrong I'd love for Iowa to play in Des Moines, but if they are a really high seed they will be playing teams they should beat for the first two rounds at a minimum regardless of location. However, if Iowa lands in Des Moines I will definitely be thanking ISU.

The point is that it took IOWA STATE being the official host to get the NCAA Tournament in Des Moines. Otherwise, Iowa would be playing in some other location out of state. Easier travel for the fans. You are right that the path for a 1,2,3 seed is pretty similar regardless of location. That's all. Maybe Iowa can return the favor one day?
