NDSU's offense

I really would like to know why people thought Campbell would bring in an offense that went under center 30 plus percent of the time. His offenses as head coach at Toledo were spread and when he was OC at Toledo they ran a spread offense. It probably is a spread that focuses on developing the downhill running game early but I fail to think of anytime he said they'd be going under center often and I'm not sure why anybody thinks going under center is this magical thing that makes poor offenses good.

I wouldn't mistake the offense we're running now with the offense this staff wants to run.

Right on Bro er Shytown...lol

The Matt Campbell offense at Toledo was run heavy just like the no dakota state offense that whipped thee ioa choke eyes......Yes fans they Choked Again over in ioa citi....................

Give Matt sometime and I think you are gonna like his football offense and program

Go Cyclones

I guess I picture K-State being the type of offense Campbell wants. Need to develop linemen, which will take a couple years

I would take that type of approach in a heartbeat.

Solid line, get the ball to your athletes and take what's there.

Watching them play, they run exactly the kind of offense I was hoping Campbell was bringing here.

They put their QB under center sometimes and run the I formation at times, but they also go shotgun and run more a of read option at times too. I like the mixture of both.
Tom Herman couldn't do jack with ISU's offense when he was here. Any system needs some talent.

I understand we don't have the personnel to run NDSU's offense right now, but I was under the impression we were going to do some under center type stuff with Campbell. Get the RB at least running downhill when he gets the handoff versus standing still in wet cement.

I saw maybe 20 under center plays in five years at Toledo. One game they ran it a series after the game was out of reach just to show the opposition they could do it better than the opponent could who practiced it everyday. That's what an experienced Oline can do for you.

Go to ESPN3 and pull up Toledo's game today and watch the offense. That is CMC's offense.

I love CMC and staff thus far I really do but to think some fans on here were railing on people posting that JP should seriously look at Chris Kleiman..

NDSU's coach before Kleiman is the one that really got them rolling. He went to Wyoming and has done next to nothing there. Its no guarantee Kleiman would be good here. I would have been fine with that hire though.

I guess I don't see that approach so far. I see a definite emphasis on wanting to run the ball

I didn't watch today so can't comment, but that's what I'd rather see and what I think is important for ISU to have as a strength to play off of.

Track meets just don't work.

And, IMO, a controlled, grind it out type of game is more interesting to watch as a football fan.

Baylor has been one of the best running teams in the nation the last several years. Wanting to run the ball does not mean you are not running a spread.

I assumed we would be more of a power running team but it sounds like that was a bad assumption based on what Toledo guy says.

They pushed Iowa around, (That made me feel good to see the smug Hawkeyes get pushed around) and that is something that ISU was not able to accomplish THIS YEAR. I have confidence Coach C. will get it done in the next few years. Remember, it took Ferentz a couple of season to right the ship at Iowa and they were no where close to where Rhodes left the Cyclones.

I was watching the UCF game last night and I noticed that like us UCF has a bad OL so instead of blocking they dove at Marylands legs at the beginning of every play. To take their players out of the play.

A) I thought that was illegal this year
B) talk about making a team hate you
C) I wonder if this is actually more effective

Footnote:

From what I understand, this was the final game they will ever play against the an FBS team. That would mean Iowa State, in CPR year 1, would go into the history books as the last FBS team to ever beat NDSU. Not worth, but a fact nonetheless.

NDSU plays Oregon in 2020 (Or, as of Saturday, still are scheduled to!)

37 of their players are from MN. Wonder what they would choose if they had a P5 offer? It grinds my gears that these guys beat P5 teams regularly but they are not good enough for our offers.

We live in north central Minnesota during the summer. Surrounded by Bison. This program has been good since the 1960's. They are beloved by people in the north lands. Bison flags flying everywhere. People simply don't understand the tradition of excellence up here. Minnesota refuses to play them.

As others have said you can't judge what we want to do on O as a program after 3 games. It will take time to get the right personnel in place and all of the guys that have been in the program for a few years no exactly what to expect and it will (should) come easier for them instead of everyone starting from scratch.

And just a thought on O scheme in general, it really doesn't matter what type of O you run it's running it correctly and everyone being on the same page and doing their job on a particular play. That is what successful teams do it doesn't have to be fancy if it is run right.
