Just something unique.

If it's your first child, some advice.

If you're going for unique, and are committed to that, don't f-ing tell anyone the name until it's on the birth certificate. Otherwise you'll get the full court press from everyone who thinks their opinion is relevant. The f-ing checkout lady at Wal-Mart will tell you her opinion if you let her.

But since you asked, and this is a message board and easy to ignore, personally, I'm not a fan of *unique*, depending on how that's done. Like taking a normal name and screwing up the spelling, you're saddling your kid with having to repeat the spelling of his/her name 3 times and correct it twice after that.

I guess we kind of went unique in the fact that it's a traditional name, but not one that's popular now. Nothing like Jedidiah or anything, but it's a family name and not on the top 10 lists.

That rant aside, if you want unique, work an actual number in. Maybe 4est (Forest) or 1der (wonder), that's unique on 2 fronts.

So...hopefully 2 worthwhile suggestions, and one stupid one.

My wife and I are having our first boy in about two weeks and are struggling finding a good name. My wife is much pickier than I am because she has taught for nine years.

She has already knixed many of the names I came up with, evgeni, pavel, anze, etc. she definitely doesn't want our son playing hockey after saying no to those.

I've been looking online for names but figured the cyclone fanatic family would be more helpful.

***, I hope Anze is not popular until I'm mature enough to father a child. Because Anze FTMFW!! Solid name. Tell your wife that Anze is what it is. Anjay FTMFW.

Name him after a dad, grandpa, uncle... whomever you've looked up to. Can't go wrong with a family name. Plus, going with a 'Harold,' 'George,' 'Charles,' 'Earl,' 'Warren,' etc. (just some examples from my fam) would be much cooler and old school than some of the cheesed out names parents opt for these days. Just my opinion.

agree 100% with this.

I agree totally with this. There are some really dumb names out there right now - especially when you get into little girl names.

If we have another child and it's a boy, he will be Charles Robert (after each of our grandfathers), and will be nicknamed Charlie. Unique enough there won't be 30 in his class, but classic and stable.

Pick a name that he can have at every stage in his life. What may be cute on a 3-year-old may sound ridiculous when he's in his 40s and trying to land a job as an executive or something.

Is he the only, or just one of a few, in his age group? I think the popularity is down in the 60s or so on the Social Security website's name list, so it's not like he's going to be one of a million. Do you have to battle people calling him Chuck much?

My next door neighbor is a hawk fan and just named their boy Nile Kinnick (first and middle names). My wife is due in September with a boy and I'm trying to convice her to name him Jack Trice.
