A few years back, a nephew and his wife had a baby boy and they ended up staying in the hospital for a couple of days. Anyway, during that time they still hadn't named their child.

Finally, right before they left the nurse said that they needed a name on the birth certificate... the husband went outside and thought about it, still uncertain he returned to the room, seeing the wife holding their child when a friend walked in and said, "I thought he was bigger then that." And dad named his son from that statement - Dalton

I don't get it.

The induce date is set for June 13th so if he doesn't show up before that date, I will post the name then. We are very excited.

Feel free to add more names, I've added them to our list.... I say our but it's mine with a lot of names crossed out after I read them to my wife...

Some great ideas. Thanks again.

We actually really liked Abraham for a while. Nickname him Bram or Bam. We eventually moved on because we thought it might be too old-mannish.

Is it just me, or are boy's names WAY harder than girl's names? My wife and I had a hard time settling on a boy's name we both liked, but before we found out the sex we were having trouble narrowing down our girl names list.

Opposite problem for us. We used family names for boys' names, but we only wanted family names for the middle names for girls' names. We argued and looked for forever for girl names.

Family names weren't really an option for us. Most of the good ones were already taken by cousins and their kids, so we would have been stuck with something like Clarence or Ida.

How about William Joseph James Robert. All are pretty common names. Its kind of long but could shorten it to Billy Joe Jim Bob.

Throw in Luke and you've named my boys.:twitcy: Everyone wants "unusual" names but mine were the only kids in their classes with these traditional names. There are a whole lot of Codys, Jordans, and Daltons floating around though.

nice choices..... NOT

I know a girl who named their boy 'Brausden' ...the kid is a wimp at age 4

really tired of zach, jason, jed, jake, Jacob, Owen, Gage, Luke, or any other MOUNTAIN name/little house on the Prairie name/mormon name/Amish name

and sick of ryan, Justin, dustin, Wesley ...............NO...........h#ll no

Or the equally light-in-the-loafer 70's names like Kevin, Steve, Scott, Jeff

most 'Jeffs' I know are d%cks. The other three are annoying people as well.

The worst? I have come across three families (no Iowa grads between the 3 sets of parents)
........Their boys' name? Hayden, Nile, Kinnick. .........puke

How ''bout good old fashions saint names??

James
Joseph
Michael
John

you can't go wrong with those four

From myself and all the other Jeffs out there.

**** You!

That's exactly why we couldn't use family names for girls' names! There are about a million Katherines and Elizabeths already, so those are middle name choices now.

We used family names as middle names. I used my mom's middle name and her Aunt's first name as the kids middle names. Since we had twins, my wife and I used people who meant alot to us but our kids would never get to meet.

For my boys we went kind of old school. Personally, a lot of the newer made up names are getting over done. (Caiden, Jayden...)

Personally I think older names are more unique now since everyone else is trying to be hip and innovative.

Not particularly religious but went with a biblical name in Caleb for our first born. He has my middle name. Until about a month before he was born he was going to be named Luke (not for Star Wars reasons).
Of course the next few years after he was born that became a much more popular name.

Went old school again with Grady for my second born. His middle name is also family oriented. Ward, after his maternal great grandfather Howard.

One thing I like about both of their names is that they sound good as a kids name and an adults name. They also both are nickname-able. (Cale and Gray)

What my wife and I did was go through name books and name sites online and write down every name that we liked. We then compared lists and made a joint list that we both liked. We also wanted to be kind of unique so we looked up the ranking of the name for the past few years. Any names that were too common we cut out. Both of us have names that were pretty popular in the year of our birth.

Next we tried to figure out what we liked about the names specifically. We looked up the meanings of the names (if they had them) and also tried to think up any nicknames for the names. You also have to consider if there are any easy bad nicknames that jerk-off bullies can use against them in the future.

Then we looked at the potential first names and paired them with out last name to see if it was a good fit. If it sounded odd or rhymed or any other oddity, we cut it.

Then we considered what we wanted for middle names. We both liked our family related middle names so the first names had to fit those. Then we put all three names together and poured over them for a long time.

It took a long time for our first, but we kept the lists for our second as a starting point and went from there.

One name that we didn't use because it was a bit too popular, but we liked was Tyler, with the nickname Ty. It's pretty close to Cy too.

Cyrus or Cyrl or Cyler and call him Cy

Go with Cyrus. Not only could you call him Cy, he's also named after a bad-*** Persian king!

On that note you could also go with Xerxes, another Persian king. That would be unique and he would have a really cool first initial. Call him X for short!
