Re: New FB Commit?

Guys, 52 of his 70 tackles were for losses. Two things - he wraps up and he is persistent. Can you spell BERRYMAN REINCARNATE. 6-4, 230.

Can you spell "I hope not"? Just kidding.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. This kid did that against high schoolers. Doing it against 300lb O-Lineman from UT and OU is a different story. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. This kid certainly has potential, we'll see how he uses it when he gets here. Another thing that's great: He seems to be in no danger of not academically qualifying with a 3.3 GPA and an 1120 SAT. At least we can be reasonably sure he'll actually end up in school, unlike some other guys.

Re: New FB Commit?

I hate to sound negative but I want to see several 4 star recruits. Don't expect any 5 star guys but we need several difference makers. If we can get a half dozen 4-star guys that will show on the field next year. While these 3-star guys can be great I think they are about 3 years down the road impact players. They might start but don't have a chance to be a "stud" until probably year 3 and that might be too late.

Also, I think the star rankings are crap... but I'm sure statistically there is a direct correlation between rankings and % of actual player success and thus a class filled with higher ranked players will improve our odds.

soda,

I loved the guys athletic/physical #'s but his intelligence seems to be there too. I am looking forward to seeing him in ISU's new uniforms!

So you think the rankings are crap, but you want higher ranked players. Ok.

Don't hold your breath on a half dozen four star recruits. Very few schools get at least six four or five star recruits in a year, Texas and Oklahoma are probably the only two in the big 12 that will, maybe one other, but if you look at their classes they will have lots of three star guys. One or two might happen and that would be great but we need as many solid three star type recruits as we can get at this point. As chizik has said to have the kind of team he expects we need a couple special ones and a whole bunch of the right ones.

4 3-star recruits this early is pretty solid for ISU. I would be happy with one or two 4 star guys, but I certainly don't expect it. I suspect that our highest rated recruits will come from the JUCO ranks.

Totally agree. D.J. looks like a solid defensive end, and it looks like Chizik's putting together a pretty good recruiting class for next year. But I hope people don't expect him to pull in 4 & 5 star recruits by the fistfuls (and honestly, that strategy isn't really working out so well for our neighbors to the west). He's going to have to find lower-rated guys that will fit into his system, and then coach them up.

Because ISU has a small athletic budget and can't offer recruits the best facilities and massages from Keeley Hazell every afternoon, we're probably not going to have a top-rated recruiting class right away. Like he said in his press conference, the best thing he has to offer recruits is playing time.

P.S. Love the hit Marshall makes at the end of the video!

Re: New FB Commit?

Anytime you can get a Texas top 100, he's a stud....

Now we need to get two of these guys - Cromartie, Presley, Jackson or Ben and help solidify that secondary!!!!

Throw in a solid DT and a few linebackers and this has the makings of a defense that can get after people!!!!

Great Job, if we keep Robertson, we will three solid DE's already committed....thats awesome!!!!

The Big 12 already has 4 schools that exceed your estimate and Okie St is not far from achieving this stat. If the big 12 can get a TV package that puts more teams on weekly it will only help recruiting. I think what the Big Ten network offers is every school being televised, thats a powerful tool for recruiting - especially to lower income families that cannot afford to trek from texas and florida to Ames to watch their sons play ball.

I think if we can get another 25-30 lbs of pure muscle on this guy we're talking about a freak here. This is a very good pickup. It looks very much like Chizik is setting us up for success down the road.

I love how much focus Chizik is putting on the offensive and defensive lines. He's building from the trenches up and I love that.

I am in total agreement. If you swap Texas' Oline and Dline with ISU's on Saturday, the score would have been a lot different. Take the Texas Oline and Dline with ISU's other positions, and I can almost guarantee victories against UNI, Toledo, Kent State and Nebraska.

I don't know - you'd still have the issue of Meyer locking onto receivers and Blythe only putting the effort on downs that he feels like, but I digress.

As much as this kid has the physical skills, I think what goes unmentioned here is his intelligence - this kid is no dummy. 3.3 GPA with a 1200+ ACT - those are good numbers as well. If this kid is trained right, he has all the makings of being a defensive leader for our team for years to come.

I'm so glad u didnt include texas on that list, what was evident during that game was the difference in pure athletes. I didn't think that our Oline or Dline played bad. The difference is, if your Dline is not going to get any pressure, and they're focused on stopping the run, your dbacks and lb better be able to cover....I thought our secondary played extremely passive. I'd rather play aggressive, possible makes some breaks, then sit back and watch their qb deliver completion after completion to their wideouts...it was ridiculous......

Let's just be happy that with the likes of Robertson, Marshall and Mcdonough all rated lineman with size and speed, our defense will improve - pressure at this level is the key, thats why we all loved berryman, he put pressure on the qb and made plays...

Chiz, go get a couple of those DT you've been chasin, how bout Swanson Miller (JC) would be a great start in solidifying the DL....

It's recruits like this that make me wonder how people are so ready to melt down and never purchase season tickets again. There is hope.

Holy crap that is one smart kid - I think the ACT for the rest of us goes to 36.....

With smarts like that, maybe he has special powers and can just play the Jedi mind trick on opposing linemen.
