Yeah if you watch that and say he isn't very athletic or he's a project, you are really not very smart. He's 7'1". SEVEN-ONE. And looks like he can contribute right away.

Well i dunno....i dont put much stock into him just being 7'1".....we could find a 7 foot cigar store indian to roll up and down the court if that were the case. Him being that tall is useless if hes a major project....which it DOESNT appear to be.

What i liked is he has a very smooth stroke for a 7 footer...a little Chris Bosh like in the way he dips down before he gets his shot up....but not a major flaw or anything. He runs well, appears to have active hands.

Can tell from even the highlight reel he will have to get better fundmentally with his footwork, and leverage. Had a couple box outs where he just stands there, and his height gets the board....and with the ball just got shoved. NOt a flaw...just things any kid has to work on being young and tall. Weightroom.

But man....that shooting stroke is nice.

I would note that it is has been reported that Olympiacos was interested in this kid. Ioannis Papapetrou who played a year at Texas averaged about 8.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg his freshman year. He left and is now at Olympiacos and is 10 minutes per game, scoring about 4 points per game.

What this all means I'm not quite sure, other than Olympaicos wants him, and Olympiacos currently has a player who had success in the Big 12 his freshman year that is currently pretty deep on the bench for Olympiacos.

It means you now have the record for dropping Olympaicos in one post :)

All I needed to see from any of the videos was he is 7'1" and he is able to run down the court and dribble the basketball at the same time. When you're that big just having average agility and athleticism makes you a desired prospect. There is a reason if you are between the age of 20-40 in the US and 7 feet tall or higher there is a 17% chance you spent time in the NBA.

Exactly. With a player that is more than likely going to take time to develop I (and I know I am not a scout) look at the raw athleticism. The kid can get up and down the court, move his feet and doesn't look like a stiff out there.

The rest of his game doesn't concern me because at 7'1 and an ability to move... you can have a guy who can be beneficial to your system. If nothing else he disrupts shots at the rim and I think we have all seen how effective that simple act can be (sorry Edge...)

Exactly. You can develop skill, you can't develop size. You take almost every 7'1" guy you can and develop him the way you want him to play.

I think the doubters are over-thinking it. CFH and MA's NBA scouting buddies recommended Tsalmpouris to the staff. Remember last time that happened? We got Georges Niang out of the deal.

I think a lot of it stems from the fact he's played a lot of U-17 competition in Greek leagues which is probably < most US high school competition. Although I do think he put up some pretty respectable numbers against their semi-pro league competition. If Fraschilla says he's a nice prospect, I agree. I'd rather have a 7'1" prospect/project than a 6'5" guy.

Did Adam Woodbury play a tough schedule in 3A Iowa High School Basketball? The things I like from his videos are good hands, decent foot speed, a nice jumpshot, dunking and fairly good post footwork. That kind of stuff doesn't rely on competition. Based on what I have seen so far (which isn't much) I would bet that he will be so much better than Adam Woodbury.

I don't see much downside at all if he ends up in Ames. even as a freshmen he can be used for mismatch opportunities.
having the OPTION of putting a 7'1 guy in the game isn't a bad thing. its a good option to have. and its a 7'1 guy that that we wont absolutely need on the floor to win games next year which makes it perfect.

I think it's Salm-por-is.

...paging Bos...

Based on the pronunciation an undergraduate professor's name, Salm por iss (rhyme with diss) is probably correct.

Kid (I can say that, right?) looks to have huge upside. Fred has proven he knows what he is doing when it comes to recruiting, and I agree with others that this looks to be a no lose situation. If he pans out, fantastic. If not, not a big loss.

The t is not silent. It blends together like the ending of "cats."

You are right. I did grow up in a Spanish speaking country and my family always said the T was silent, since there are no Spanish words with a letter combination like "ts". In English, yes. Very subtle t blended in with the s. Good catch!

I don't know if you guys all will remember this being it was 7 years ago now, but a remember Yi Jianlian. That dude got drafted for being able to post up a chair. (can't find the video anywhere, Chinese authorities must have ripped it out of the interwebs).

So at least this kid and move up and down the court with actual bodies.
