New Logo and colors?

I think I mentioned this in one of the many uniform threads on here. Mike McBreen is an ISU alum and a senior exec at Nike who deals with collegiate apparel. He was on campus over homecoming weekend and I had a chance to talk to him. He said that he had just finished meeting with the athletic department to finalize the uniforms for next year, the design was a done deal even before Mac stepped down.

He didn't say what they will look like, but if guitarchitect was told by JP that they will stay the same, then I would guess that is the case. The design has been finalized, it will look just like this year, and I can't imagine that they would try to sell merchandise that does not match what is on the field.

If the "design" is the same (which sucks by the way, our "design" is cheesy as hell) does that mean the "quality" or colors will be better? (And by quality I mean on par with other college teams instead of high school)

I think if there was a logo or color change afoot that it would be something that the athletic department would be touting to build up excitement and anticipation.

I'm sure the reason that this has been brought up recently is that we have typically changed uniforms/helmets with new football coaches in the past...it's kind of been a tradition with us!

As I recall, the current logo was developed by professionals using focus groups, etc. All of this, I'm certain, in an effort to maximize licensing rights revenue by increasing sales of all things with the logo. The only thing that would probably make us change is if we were certain that licensing revenue would be significantly greater with a new logo/color scheme.

Although I am typically an "old school" kind of guy, I personally like the "new" Cy logo that is on the helmets. Heck, I even like the colors. I'm not a big fan of our dark uniform (red) monochromatic look (jerseys and britches the same) but it is apparently the favored trend among college teams...just look around.

I just hope we don't become a Nike experiment like the University of Oregon!

I would guess that whoever you talked to meant "new logo" in the sense of our current logo. I was in T-Galaxy last week and they speak in terms of "old logo" (walking Cy) and "new logo" (twister bird). Hope that makes sense.

It seems like there is a lot of reliance on information that was given before coach Chizik was brought on board. If he and Pollard got together and thought it would be beneficial to go with a different design, it could happen by next season. I know I know, these things have a process. Sure, but Pollard has a way of doing things. Once you have a design, its not like it takes 10 months to make jerseys, helmets, and stuff for the fans. So I don't think its fair to assume this is not a topic worth discussing.

For those of you who don't want to discuss a new logo, color scheme, or uniform, then stay out of the conversation. Clearly there are plenty of us who would like to see a change made, and a little banter can be fun.

As far as this post by Land Shark goes, you better learn how to ask a question.

One last thing, isn't a new era in coaches the perfect time to move on to a different logo? Think about it, in 25 years you'll see clips of the current logo and immediately identify it with the McCarney era. Later you'll see the replacement logo and know you're in the Chizik era. I think it's great timing.

Actually as JP put it, it is a 10 month process to do this stuff. And I have heard that from multiple sources.

I guess what I'm saying is that I have no reason to doubt that the normal process is 10 months, but I think that under special circumstance you can have a much faster turnaround. Making t-shirts and jerseys isn't that complicated. If they want it done faster I have faith they could do it.

Our next logo should include breasts. If that won't sell shirts - nothing will.

And, this would require an extensive search to find the right breasts to model after. We'd search high and low for th-...well...maybe not low...but you get the idea.

Not surprised that there will be no changes for next year. I've been in that camp most of the way though. However, just to throw some fuel on the fire, JP has certainly pulled off some shockers in his short time here. I can see him building the hype for the upcoming football season and just when it looks like it has reached its peak, pulling out something like a new logo to put it over the top. Making the change at the same time as the coaching change would make sense..... I don't see it, just throught I'd throw it out there.

Seems like some pretty personal stuff and offending posts on here about unis....anyway.....I don't know anything about this, but from a students perspective....

It's annoying when I walk through the book store, or see someone walking around with a ISU sweatshirt that is brown with blue lettering, navy blue with yellow lettering, pink with green lettering, etc. As far as I know, our colors are cardinal and gold....I know that it increases the number of choices available, but I just don't think that a navy blue and yellow ISU sweatshirt is very school-spirited, considering it looks alot more like UI's colors than ours. Just thought I'd throw that out there....

Marketing Department wants new stuff...but its a major expense the Athletic Dept wants to put off. Lots of irons in the fire right now. Don't expect much new other than cosmetic changes. This is from a very good source.

One quick addition...look at total expense of new logo...
-uniforms
-stadium
-flags
-hilton arena
its a major league expense. We might all be surprised, but that is the least concern for AD right now.

Exaclty!
The logo is much more than the football program. It encompasses the whole University, whether Chizik wants a new logo or not (which I don't think he does) he is NOT the one to make the decision. I don't think JP has the individual authority either to make changes.

There are not any changes in store right now.

There is way too much money vested in the current logo and color scheme to make any changes. Part of a marketing plan is to have a consistent, recognizable look and feel.

Yep...it's called brand building. Which Iowa State desperately needs.

I like the new package of marks pretty well, but I have not been too impressed with how the university is controlling their usage. With so many variations of the logo, the door is open to misuse.
