I see what you're talking about here, but this is just talking about the regular season. 9 losses overall are a possibility, 5,6, or 7 losses in the regular season. 10 regular season losses would mean we had a Oklahoma State sized flop.

Ah, my bad then. I thought we were talking about the entire season. I'd probably say 7-8 losses if we're just talking about the regular season.

We lost 8 games with a really good team last year.

I don't get where some of this stuff comes from.

And would you be happy leveling off with those same results or do you expect more from this year's team? I think the Top 4 of the Big 12 is better than it was last year but that from top to bottom, the Big 12 is not as deep with teams that could burn you as they were last year.

7-8 losses with that non-con schedule will be a very dissapointing year for ISU.

Given Hoiberg's inability to consistently win on the road, it's hard to predict fewer than that with games at Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas State, Baylor, West Virginia and Oklahoma State.

Iowa State is great offensively under Hoiberg but pretty mediocre defensively. There was some improvement on defense last year but some of that may have been courtesy of Doc Sadler. Great defense travels better than great offense so I'm not convinced Hoiberg's road woes won't continue.

Yeah, Doc Sadler was out there guarding people last year. Either that or Morris/Long/Kane were pretty good defenders.

Mayor has not had a shot blocker yet like McKay. His 7'2" wingspan and Nader's 7' wingspan make this a tough team to find a good shot against all of the sudden (and I didn't even mention Niang's new physique).

The guy is 74-31 the last three years, he doesn't have woes.

You have a point, but to say that ISU loses all of those seems a little extreme. I'll give you Kansas, where we play well most of the time but not enough to win and Texas where we never play well. The rest could go either way, especially with Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kansas State, and Baylor being pretty big question marks for next season. If Iowa State vs. Iowa wasn't a rivalry I would have that marked as a win, but since it is that's more of an unknown as well.

ISU is a number 3 seed. They win their first game against Mercer. They play the 6 seed Nebraska Cornhuskers in Omaha and beat them. In the Sweet 16, they go to Houston and beat Duke. They lose in the elite 8 against Kentucky, finishing 29-8 overall

Fred's got nowhere near the "road woes" that his college coach had.

I guess something to ***** about is always needed.

A loss to Baylor when they lost so much? I can't see them being any good.

This is totally believable.

I see one detail that would fuel conspiracy theories: ISU having a 3 v 6 matchup in Omaha with Nebraska. I could solve that, though -- Nebraska loses to 11-seed Harvard in first game.

Fred is getting better each year winning more conference road games because he has better teams. With a roster like we have this year, I expect our only road losses to be to Kansas, Texas, and MAYBE Oklahoma. It's still shocking to see 9 out of 10 people on here predicting a loss to Iowa. It still makes no sense to me why so many downers automatically assume Iowa will win because we're playing on the road.
