What we need is a top notch recruiter...klieman or whatever his name is...I'm sure great coach..with great fundamentals...which is desperately needed here...but that guy couldn't recruit to Ames prob...A PJ Fleck type with a very good OC and DC is the type we should be going after...the best of both worlds would be a great recruiter who is also a good offensive mind who develops QBs..

My thought is that PJ Fleck is on a lot of radars and will probably be gone by the time JP gets around to firing and hiring. I am addressing that there are many good coaches who are HCs that would be available even after the rock star coaches are gone. Klieman or Carey could address recruiting with assistant coaches.

I would look for three things. One offense side Coach with a play to win mindset. Two coming from the pro ranks which brings recruiting credibility and an understanding of the next level. Three a calm demeanor. Those are things that Holberg and Ference seem to have in common and they have both been successful head coaches in the Midwest.

Part of me thinks that wed be better off waiting another year to get another candidate when there aren't so many positions open nationwide, but then I realize how pathetic we are as a fan base to allow 3, 3 or less win seasons in a row, and continue to keep our coach.

People keep saying wait because so many jobs are open... How do we know there won't be just as many open next year? We will never be in the running for the coaches they are looking at anyway. IMO we need to take a gamble and try to get a good up and comer that one of those bigger programs won't hire anyway. Like the Hoibergs or Brad Stevens of football. Give a young guy a chance. Maybe like a Sage Rosenfels type of guy. Give him some veteran coordinators and assistants and let him go to work.

So another 2 win season to hope there are better candidates and less openings? NO.

You have to hire a current or former HC that can bring an entire staff. It's too bad that Minnesota made the right decision on their new Coach. Would have loved to have stolen him and Kill's former staff.

Yuck. No way. I don't think he'll work out.

Really think Matt Campbell is at the top of the list because he would keep Ayeni which would likely mean keeping Warren. Lazard and Lanning aren't going anywhere. I think Campbell presents the smoothest transition.
