Why do people think JP is going to raise the bar on candidates he seeks when he has shown no desire to do that even in the big revenue sports? He had donors offering money we've never seen before to support big ticket coaches for MBB and FB and he refused to even entertain the prospect for more than 5 minutes.

While I have no doubt JP has a future for Wrestling (I know for a fact he does), everything I've heard makes me believe it's going to be another project type coach with more risk than reward in many fans' eyes. While I'm happy with our MBB and FB coaches, nothing I've heard makes me believe I'm going to be as pleased with our new wrestling coach.

Prove me wrong for once JP, I'd love it if you did. Right now, it's looking like a long road through the land of irrelevancy.

NONE of the prospects mentioned move the needle for you? I've seen Dake, Taylor, Burroughs, Popolizio and Terry Brands mentioned at one time or another, along with a who's who of assistant coaches. Yes, the program has fallen a long ways and I'm not sure how realistic any of the people mentioned are, but I think we've listed most of the big time candidates that are out there. Short of Gable, Cael or John Smith, who moves the needle for you?
Yes those names sound exciting if you you are trying to develop a program but the position I thought ISU was in they could get a more established coach. Maybe I'm wrong and overreaching where the program is at currently.

Jody Stritmatter- has coached Megaludis, Nolf, Kemerer, Vincenzo Joseph, Spencer Lee, Verkleeren, Gavin Teasdale, etc.

If Jody is going to take a job, it would have been Pitt...He makes too much money doing what he loves at the local level running his own show.

There are some limits to our reach, but 90-95% of it is because of self-imposed monetary reasons more than stature. ISU doesn't have quite the name for itself that it used to, but most of the names being thrown about would love the opportunity to take a fairly easy project (relatively speaking) and put their name on the turnaround. But JP refuses to open the wallet far enough to make it worth it for most.

Yet in this case it's a minimal amount with where a wrestlings coach salary is compared to football and basketball. He did it for track.

I suppose this is what I'm trying to get too. Given the past big sports hires JP had to dig deeper to find a "diamond" in the rough since we didn't necessarily have the brand or history. But I would think ISU still has some weight in wrestling circles to draw a big name IF Jamie is willing to make a commitment to wresting.

So JP already has been interviewing?

Agree with all of this, what's funny though is Jamie decided he wanted a good coach for his son and hired a top 10 XC coach and paid him a top 5 salary in the NCAA.

I know there are a few Hawk fans that hope ISU stays down but I am not one of them. I hope you guys get a good hire and that your AD gets with the right people. Hopefully it will be a current head coach who can bring in a double recruiting class. Remember, nobody is gone yet until they sign with another team. Get a good hire that Mr. Gomez likes, he could be right back in Ames. I do think the Allar ship had sailed even before KJ got fired...I meant resigned.

I will be moving from Tucson to IC but would love an excuse to come visit my Dad in Slater and take him to Hilton to see a match. Good luck lads...you all deserve something good to happen and I hope it does...especially you Buf

6. Varner
7. Bono
8. Dresser

RE: #2. Jody reportedly didn't have any interest in the Pitt job (was asked by local media). He loves the PA area and his current role. Not sure this happens

I realize u didn't say it directly but I was asking you that question since you seem to "know" who the guy is.

There is a short list of 3-4 I've seen from 2 donors and I know some high level discussions with at least 2 of them have occurred, but it's still obviously early.

Do you believe the candidates that are listed aren't qualified or proven to be a legit coach?
