That's what I am hoping for but at the same time, it's natural for us to want to know now. Also, let's hope we don't hear much until the season is over. That's a sign they are looking at a sitting HC.
I agree with you that XC and Track have a noble history at ISU, but Ihmels had the same title and duties, before being replaced by Smith, at about half the pay. Just seems suspicious Pollard gets deep pockets when his son is concerned?!?1. He is not just the XC Coach, he is also the Director of Men's and Women's Track & Field, so his pay is covering three jobs.
2. To say that XC has almost zero history at ISU is being very ignorant.
*At least one competitor in every summer Olympics from 1976 to 2016 (plus qualifiers in 1980)
*Track: 43 individual national champions, over 320 All-Americans, 31 conf team titles
*Men's XC: 2 NCAA team titles, 13 conf team titles, 2 individual NCAA champs, 11 individual conf champs, 37 All-Americans
*Women's XC: 8 national team titles (U.S. Fed and AIAW), 12 conf team titles, 3 individual national champs, 9 individual conf champs, 34 All-Americans
No doubt XC and Track based off of the accomplishments you listed have had some good history, but I'd also like to point out how many of those AA honors were by the same person? Didn't Lisa Uhl have like 15 AA honors? I know wrestling has a lot of multiple AA's but you can only AA once a year not 4 or 5 times. Also was Iowa State considered to be a top 3 or 4 program historically in Track? I think the answer is probably no, Wrestling was considered top 3 or 4 now we are considered maybe top 15. It's time to pony up and pay for a coach that can restore ISU back to it's rightful place among the elites in wrestling.
And you are a fool to think that Track and XC aren't Pollards pet projects, it is obvious they are.

You lose. Though ISU certainly has a good track reputation, when the other sport has the two wrestlers on the sports mythical mount rushmore, tough to beat.
The history argument wasn't a comparison of wrestling vs. track. The initial statement was that track/XC had ZERO history at Iowa State, which is utterly false.
I checked because I was curious, she had 8 AA honors

So do a couple others, including somebody who AAed in the 800 meters twice each year, once in indoor and once in outdoor. But there's also some confusing stuff like people getting AA honors for coming in 15th in Steeplechase, 17th in High jump, or 24th in the 5,000 meters.
How many AA awards does track give out? 24th seems kind of far out there for that.

Messi will have to correct this I'm sure, but do people AA for certain accomplishments in XC/T&F, such as race times or a certain jump height in high jump, for example?
I'm just thinking Olympic qualifications. Just because a person may win an event in the US trials doesn't mean they qualify for the olympics in that event, because there are "Olympic standards" that must be met.

Personally, my dream was always to build a 30-50 million dollar facility that attaches to Hilton's SE corner and Johnny's and extends into the grass area. It would house the practice facility (and extras) for wrestling, gymnastics, volleyball and even a newer basketball facility. If I had the money, that is what I would want to do. Location may be a spoiler too, I don't know.
Also more athletes participate in track, I believe they have indoor and outdoor seasons, not sure, giving them a larger pool of athletes and more events to AA in. Wrestling, 10 weights 10 individual chances per year
If we just do the three sports that need a facility (wrestling, gym and VB, we could do that but I push it towards University just a bit more and give the building a slight move that fits in the with Iowa State Center. If we add the basketball to the facility, I make it bigger but still angle it away from Hilton a bit. That L-shape bothers me for some reason.
You would need at least 5,000 capacity, IMO. If wrestling ever got up to a contending level, most meets would be at Hilton anyway. And if VB gets back up to where it was a few years ago, and where Christy wants it, you would need to plan for at least 4,000.I remember that, and liked the idea except for thinking that the new facility would get swamped by the Skunk once every 10 or 15 years unless they hauled in a few thousand tons of fill to build it up.
If I had an extra $25-40 mil laying around I'd gladly spring for a 3-4,000 seat facility for holding wrestling and VB meets, (and gymnastics if they'd fit...I don't know how much floor space they require.) Move to Hilton when there's a big one but otherwise a crowd 3000 could actually still be a factor in a smaller venue.
