my source is a friend of one of the coaches. I can not say the coaches name all I can say is that he and i share the same hometown. plus he was back in town. for the record i said thats what the coaches believe will happen. not official but a strong idea of what they have planned.
thx for relaying....so this source has confirmed what I had heard "on the street", which is that before we signed Jantz, Barnett was seen as the frontrunner. I wonder what changed the coaches minds that Barnett is not good enough to start.

Word on the street is get of the thread if you dont want to here what coach has to say

Hahaha are you serious? The kid hasn't even stepped foot on campus yet, and you're claiming that the coaches have already made their decision.
Not only that, but you're saying that your friend is a friend of one of the coaches. Haha, that sounds legit. C'mon dude, don't come on here blabbing about garbage like that.

If you are questioning "RedBlooded" credibility, all you need to do is right-click on his name. Look at his previous posts and statements. It should be fairly easy to assess his bonafides.

Your original post did not say that's what they believe would happen. It said that's what will happen and that is what is causing people to have a negative attitude. Honestly, I can't see the staff naming someone who hasn't even been on campus the starter. That, to me, seems a little ridiculous. What if he struggles to pick up the system or the speed of the game? I would be willing to buy that they think he will start, but I am sure there will still be a competetition. I do believe the Tiller part though.

i've heard from a lot of people that there's about a 0.01% chance of tiller starting next year... coaches will say differently publicly, but what do you expect them to say? that they arent confident about the QB situation so thats why they are bringing in jantz to compete with tiller, capello, and barnett? that makes you look like a moron if you say that.

not gonna predict who the starter is, but i'd put my money on jantz right now, but barnett and capello are really going to push him. tiller is a great athlete and needs to be moved to a new position. he really could excel at WR

The guy is just relaying what he heard, lay off.
Just like he or many others would do if the roles were reversed.........right. If that's the plan the coach and his friend need to keep their mouth shut as I doubt Coach Rhoads and others want that info floating around message boards. I'm pretty sure Tiller plans on practicing at QB in the spring. By the way I have no source just my opinion.

I heard that Kirby is penciled in as the #1 quarterback going into the offseason. This means that Tiller will be at punter with Steele at longsnapper.

Wow...this thread has went nowhere. My take...They're not bringing in Jantz to hold a clipboard, so obviously they're expecting him to compete for the starting job. They may think he's gonna win it, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. As for Jerome, a few said here that once Austen originally won the job, he asked to be moved to receiver so that he could get on the field more. Of course the staff couldn't let him because we couldn't risk him getting hurt because of the lack of depth. He won't have that holding him back next year if that's the direction he wants to go. But regardless, I'll be shocked if Jerome is able to win the QB spot next year based on his lack of improvement this year. But I'll also say that he's WAY too good of an athlete to keep off the field.

I just don't want to see those who have a tidbit of info ran off.

FWIW, I hope that this isn't true. If the coaches view someone as green and unproven as Jantz as the favorite, we are in for a long season, IMO.

So is it football season yet?

I was following the speculation about who might or not be our QB next year. Suddenly, I was in the Hilton parking lot, with a warm September sun and no snow in sight, in my folding I-STATE chair, with a cold glass of my favorite, the grill fired up with burgers getting done, munchies on the table, a program in my hand, my family and friends chatting and drinking, the conversation going on about how the new QB is going to do, if the receivers can hang on to the ball, and how salty Wally's D is going to be.

For those who care, IT'S ALWAYS FOOTBALL SEASON!!

Name your source. If it's this set in stone, then your source would come forward with it if they are connected to the team.
Naming sources is for the media...do you really think the coaches would say anything if they knew it would be credited to them. the info given just reinforces what one would assume from what we do know...the offense struggled with Tiller, the coaches weren't happy with Tiller's attitude in Mizzou game, we are bringing in a juco QB at semester and reports are that Barnett was doing very well on the scout team.

Been thinking about the possible fall outs from this spring competition.
with 5 or 6 QBs on scholarship next fall I doubt they'd all stay at QB.

I doubt either JR would transfer after spring practice but if either wasn't listed
at 1 or 2 they may look to change position, maybe more so with Tiller because
of his experience in the system.

R-Soph most likely stay the course unless he isn't 1,2 or 3.
Probably the one I worry most about transferring strictly because the
window of jumping to a Juco would be closing.

R-FR depends on who they are behind, 1 or 2 remain at QB of course
but if 3 behind 2 JRs he'd most likely stay put at QB as well.

True FR would have no reason to switch unless they were recruited
for another position really the only tough call here is if one could be #2
would they be better off red shirting.

I purposely left any predictions out. It's an open competition that anyone could win. I just hope we have a clear cut winner after spring ball.

I wish people would let go of the notion that we are bringing in a Juco QB for any other reason than he was to good of athlete to pass on and he seems to fit our system. My source says that Jantz is a good athlete who if he doesn't work at QB he will get on the field in other ways.

Tough for me to believe that the coaches have made a solid decision on this when the guy hasn't even stepped on an ISU practice field with the other offensive players.

The coaches obviously have not made a solid decision yet. The original poster was merely relaying an opinion from one of the coaches as to who they think will be the starting QB. It will be an open competition this spring and hopefully a solid starter will emerge and win the job this spring. Ideally, you don't want a QB controversy lingering when the first game is played next season.

i HOPE no coach has determined that jantz will start

i HOPE no coach has given tiller a .01% chance of starting next year
i mean, all of you seem to be hoping that someone comes in and saves us for next year, but frankly, right now, all we have to go by is: jerome tiller is our best QB on roster.

Jantz hasnt even made it to campus yet. It will be a compeition for sure. I think those two have the greatest chance at starting. But if our receivers dont improve at all, it will be hard to have success with the passing game.

The fact our coaching staff went after a juco qb should indicate the level of faith the coaches have in Tiller.
