Totally agree with you. Tiller has not been better because he hasnt got enough reps to be better. He shows signs of improvement at times then he reverts back. Knowing that he truly has a chance be the guy may open him up to do things he never had a chance to do. Also, he was never pushed by Capello and he knew this was Austen's team. He didn't have a reason to be any better than he was. Only time will tell.

How has Tiller not had enough reps to get better? You lose all credibility, name any other back up quarterback that has played four full games, plus replacing AA in the baylor game a year ago, and scrap up time.

Naming sources is for the media...do you really think the coaches would say anything if they knew it would be credited to them. the info given just reinforces what one would assume from what we do know...the offense struggled with Tiller, the coaches weren't happy with Tiller's attitude in Mizzou game, we are bringing in a juco QB at semester and reports are that Barnett was doing very well on the scout team.
Exactly, I don't think the coaches have said ANYTHING to a friend about this position, much less to the media, therefore making this thread and RedBlooded's statement pointless. It's gonna be up in the air until spring ball until someone makes an official statement. This is why I am not a fan of "A source/friend/buttbuddy told me this was gonna happen" statements...

FWIW, I hope that this isn't true. If the coaches view someone as green and unproven as Jantz as the favorite, we are in for a long season, IMO.
Losing a 3 year starter- we were already in for a long season until proven otherwise.

All this means is that we are closer to proving that wrong than we would be otherwise.
We know the minimum play we will have at QB (young, inexperienced and injured Tiller). Any changes will be moving away from that level. In that regard, I hope it is true, as it would mean improved play.

Until further evaluation, Tiller is #1, Capello or Barnett # 2, and Jantz NA. If there is a new starter out of spring ball, it guarantees we have taken a step forward at the spot since AA went down.

You lose credibility when you you put a new meaning to something he said when it was not intended to be taken that way.

That's not at all what he said or meant. He meant that he hasn't gotten the reps necessary to provide the consistency to improve by leaps and bounds. That is true. I still don't know that he will start but once he get's more reps and has an opportunity to build a chemistry, maybe he will improve greatly.

Umm...how about because, early in this season, the coaches didn't pull AA--a two year starter--in blowouts because he needed the reps to get better? You lose all credibility by not understanding the learning process of football.

Please show me where he said that in the post I quoted of his....

Oh and going by the post I quoted, he had his chance against mizzou to show us the future and get the fan base excited for next year and less worried for the position, but he fell flat on his face most of the game.

People are really going to miss AA more then we think we will.

Gee, and here I thought it was the OL's lack of pass protection that was the reason he was falling flat on his face most of the game.

Well, that and the passes dropped, but that wasn't "falling flat..."

Spring ball, with all other factors being equivalent, will allow the quarterbacks a chance to demonstrate their capability--not one game.

I disagree with that. He made some plays that gave us a great opportunity to score. He threw some balls that needed to be caught and they weren't. There were missed FGs. I wasn't all that unhappy with that game and what he did. The UNI game worried much more but I could see some improvement from then up to the Missouri game. On the first series, he made a huge throw on 3rd and long on the run that showed he could play a little. If you want to write him off, that's fine but I still think he will be a player in the QB race.

tiller hardly fell flat on his face during the mizzou game. he didn't play great but the receivers played atrocious.

Plus we missed two chip shot field goals... and thats a 14-6 game that we lost to a top 20 team.

Funny this excuse was hardly acceptable during the season for AA, but wait for Tiller it was!!

Yeah but he still misses the tangibles that we are use to under AA, which we will miss. I do see Tiller being in the race, but at the end, I do not believe he is our guy. And from what I've heard he doesn't want to switch positions to help the team, which is rather selfish.

IMO, what you heard is wrong. I have heard differently. I think he wants to help the team in whichever way he can.

And why should I take your opinion over from what I heard? Just cause you write up about recruiting from time to time on CF?:twitcy:

I remember people saying the same things when Sage was a junior. Todd Bandauer had graduated and Sage hadn't played a lot or shown a whole lot. In fact, a lot of people were upset because Mac had put Bandauer in as a freshman and he played just a few snaps blowing a RS year.

IIRC, Sage improved a whole lot over the next two seasons.

So we have to wait till his senior year... well next year should be fun!

No one is gonna win the job til this fall, the only thing that can happen is someone can lose the job. Unless there's a HUGE difference this spring, nothing will be determined.

Spring game should be really interesting in that respect.

iowa state also went 4-7 in sage's first year

he also did not have great stats en route to his 9-3 season his senior year. he was a pretty darn good player though. i beleive he had 8 TDs and 12 picks his senior year passing for around 2000 yards. We were a running team in a pro style offense with a plethora of threats on offense. WR with great hands, 1200 yard rusher and the dynamic JJ Moses

(this isn't really that relevant to most of the conversation, but i enjoy reflecting on some of our shining moments )
