Brief Northern Illinois preview:

• They beat an NAIA team by 4 points and Yale by 9 points, both at home. Official attendance at the two games combined was 839.
• They did return most of their production from last season.
• Courtney Woods and Mikayla Voigt put up a ton of threes -- the duo was a combined 4-21 in the exhibition and 9-23 vs Yale beyond the arc (the rest of the team was 1-11 overall bta in the two games).
• Woods, a 6-0 wing, is also their leading rebounder, although they have nobody over 6-2 and are not particularly good at rebounding.
• Myia Starks, their starting PG, is not a threat to shoot threes. She does attempt a fair number of twos, though.
• Woods, Voigt, and Starks are their best scoring threats by far. They were the top three scorers in both games this season as well as the top three returning scorers from last season. Woods is the clear #1, though. She was 1st-team all-MAC last year, averaging 22.1 PPG. She scored 38 against Yale, primarily on threes (6-15) and FT (14-14).

This was my first game and wow that pre tip music this year sucks. That music made Hilton feel more like a morgue.

Fennelly said Rae was the primary backup PG because Niagara plays a zone and she's a better shooter than the other options. Sounds like Jade might see more time against a team that runs man-to-man.

I think the 3 of them are pretty even, so it'll be who is practicing best and matches up best. Thurmon is fast and fearless, but we all know how BF is about turnovers. Washington looks better this year, so I think defense, willingness to shoot, and lack of TOs will be big. Johnson is also in the off guard rotation a bit.

Good or bad, seemed the thing that was making coach the most upset today was the missed free throws. I was actually getting a bit concerned how many body slams were happening. Don't need anyone hurt.

Was at the game, alot of kids from all over the state. Both sections behind the baskets were almost full. Coach covered both playing time at point and he was not happy about free throws (can't blame him on the FT). As some posted it will be who practiced best and style that determines who fills in for AM at point. All three bring talents that we will need in games.

Agreed, the pre-tip music was TERRIBLE. It was slow and plodding - people couldn't even clap to it at all, although a few of the kids tried. But everyone gave up trying - even the music during our starting line-up announcement did more to encourage people to merely stand there than clap. This team deserves GOOD music that will help pump up the crowd. Whoever decided that what they used today (and the exhibitions) was good arena music was severely mistaken.

Ok, that being said, I was very happy with what I saw on the court. There is an energy and confidence with this team that has been missing for quite some time. Consistency will be the key this year. The pieces are there. Let's go win some games!...

I did like the new touch of playing the Imperial March when the visitors were announced.

They need to change the music for sure. Wish they would use the "made for this" one for intros and scap the "here we come" one

Two points: 1. Who selected the music? Did the players have input? If so and they are happy with it leave it alone. If you ask the fans you will get thousands of suggestions and many of those will be non starters. 2. At the first game my adult son made the comment that the crowd was kind of old. Yesterday when they asked for the veterans to stand, I stood up and looked around and those of us standing are OLD. My sons are in their mid to late 40's and we need more of that age and younger to keep the attendance up.
