I don't think any Iowa fans are saying they didn't want Niang, but I don't believe anyone is concerned about losing this recruit. If Iowa hauls in Gesell and Woodbury, which is very possible, that would not be a tremendously athletic class, especially if Niang is in there two. The ideal scenario would be to add Gesell and Woodbury, plus two extremely athletic players at other positions to balance things out, so to speak.
LOL. Racist!

nice work landing Niang. he averages 24+ per game and had 30 pts in the Nationals this year. I'll take a natural scorer any day.

How is this racist? Gessel is a fine athlete, and has a great vertical, but doesn't have the length and the lateral quickness that Iowa could get from another player at his position, regardless of color. And every report about Woodbury is that he is not an exceptional athlete. Not a whole lot of 7 footers are incredible athletes, especially at this point in the game (17-18 years old). I said Niang isn't incredibly athletic, and he's african american.

The rivals top 150 for the 2012 class just came out. Niang didn't make it. Eric Bossi said he loved the kids game but he is a 6'6 PF and that hurts him. Said he was a top 200 player though so he barely missed out.

I still think the kid will play a lot better than his ranking. He is going up against top talent and not only holding his own, but winning

I am thinking that Rivals is not a good judge of talent or potential. Same with Adam Finkelsten who was never sure that Georges could play at the High major Division 1 level. Georges sure proved them wrong

Love this old thread. I will say without hesitation that I would not take a single other recruit over the past 4 years ahead of Georges. He is a grest 4 year player. But more than that, he is a leader and a great representative of Cyclone Nation. There are guys with alot of hype and stars. They may even have great success for a year or 2. But this new program has been built on Georges. He is the perfect guy at rhe perfect time. Can't wait for year 4. It is going to be special!

Several players have had key roles in the resurgence, but George's is Fred's first entry-level-to-star recruit. ISU needed the top-end transfers and kicks to compete without having to wait 3 years for noticeable progress, but also had to build from the ground up, at the same time.

Niang has off days and rough stretches, sure, but big-picture, he can 'do no wrong' in my opinion.

ESPN's analysis of Niang says that he has a soft body and lacks conditioning. Says he'll probably never be able to contribute more than 25 minutes a game in college. Not really the kind of player that you'd think would fit in with our running style?

However... ESPN also thinks Elgin Cook is still coming to ISU... so take their word with a grain of salt.

Also, Niang says he wants to play Freddy ball and also says he wants to work hard on his conditioning and his strength. I'll take him at his word. Because we're going to be running and gunning Georges!
