The only thing that bothers me about the band - is when you meet someone thats in the band and all they can talk about is how awesome band is or how crazy band parties are.

I am a former band member and proud of it. There are some that live for marching/pep band and think it's the greatest thing on earth. Then there is the other at least 90% that are there for something they enjoy doing and the lifetime friendships and memories. I am sorry you met the diehards and think they are losers, some would probably say the same about some people that all they do is live for sports.

Oh and band parties used to be pretty crazy but since there is no longer a "band house" there aren't all that many from what I am told.

Wait. You watch from the west coast and some how know what songs have been played at the games by the DJ's. I'm calling troll right here. (Maybe even our little FailHawk from earlier tonight)

ummm...no. I have this thing called ESPN.

I only heard the music going into and out of commercials....

but then again, you are the genius.

You want to buy a CD of pep band music and I am the moron??

Those two aren't mutually exclusive.

My guess is you played in the band and are some high ranking member of your local dungeons and dragons club.

At least he isn't a moron.

If you want non-stop music blaring from speakers at a basketball game, there is this thing called the NBA...

Most are ripping me because they are probably current or former members of the band. I am okay with it.

Not backtracking. Still don't think they add much to games anymore. Think the "varsity" marching band thing at football games is overplayed too.

No they are ripping you because the idea of getting rid of the band is ******* stupid. You don't need to be in the band to see that.

Band parties seem like they would be the most lame thing ever.

I think it is time for the band to go bye-bye at basketball games. They don't add anything that the sound system can't do better. In fact, the speakers pump in something and then the band chirps in and kills the enthusiasm.

And they play the fight song so much that people don't even stand for it every time. I went to the ISU-KU game at Phog and they played their fight song TWICE. We play it 6-8 times a game.

Bands were important before sound systems. Just an antique now.

Better if you go away..forever.

The band is fine, they just need to add some new "up beat" songs to the rotation.

There are quite a few who disagree with me and that's okay. I'm not anti-band. When i was at ISU, the crowd at ISU hockey games used to chant, "**** the band, **** the band **** the band!" I'm not going that far. Just don't think they are that cool or important. Never heard any coach or player give it up to the band after a big win.

Most NFL teams don't have bands and a few don't have cheerleaders and the crowds still stay into it. So it isn't a crazy suggestion. And, before you post it, I know college is different then NFL. Just saying that bands are used for little more than tradition or nostalgia at the college level.

Lets go to all recorded music.... and quit playing the fight song ...and wear different color uniforms for every game....Does everybody have ADHD these days? Maybe we can replace the crowd with giant speakers!

Let's replace those empty seats in the upper balcony of the student section with some huge speakers!!!! :jimlad:

I have heard the coaches and players thank the band.
At tournaments sometimes (mens and womens)the band is the only group there maling loud noise for the team.
The student section works well and can feed off the band.
To often the canned music can kill the crowd.

So with all these positives,it looks like the pros out weigh your point of argument

No room for tradition and nostalgia in college basketball. Take the banners down from the rafters and rip out the orr statue! Melt the trophies down and sell the metal for more speakers! All good ideas.
