Yes, we need the Hilton atmosphere to emulate an NBA arena, because the NBA has been flat out awesome for years.

No room for tradition and nostalgia in college basketball. Take the banners down from the rafters and rip out the orr statue! Melt the trophies down and sell the metal for more speakers! All good ideas.

You know, day games at Wrigley were tradition. And manual scoreboards. And teams riding the bus everywhere instead of charter planes. And fans discussing the game at the water cooler instead of on the Internet. But sometimes old traditions that aren't worth keeping die.

If you don't like college bb go to dsm energy games with the 30 other people there. You won't be missed. The band would be.

Aaaaand, there it is. It's official, you don't just have a controversial opinion, you're a complete tool. Congrats.

Grow the **** up, man.

This isnt the NBA. the band is a must in College athletics. people would freak out if they didnt have the band. you are significantly out numbered. is it annoying at times yes, does it make me mad when I get yelled at by the stupid saxophone player because I am Cursing at the players..yes. I know they are annoying but it is essential and the atmosphere at hilton would suck

100% agree and we should get rid of cheer leaders too, and the students section needs to go too. And the 5 claps, what the **** is up with that. Tradition is full of stupid.:jimlad:
While we're at it, lets get rid of the basketball players too! Think how pumped the crowd would get with non-stop Sandstorm blaring through the loud speakers.

Would you rather I post it after a loss? What difference does it make? Not ripping on anyone. Just wondering if it's time has passed.

Go to a game at another arena. I will bet you they play their fight song less than we do.

It's just more proof people like you will complain about anything.

Some of the gramaphones paid for the nice enclosure that many of the shrill & annoying tweeters like to complain about.

There are quite a few who disagree with me and that's okay. I'm not anti-band. When i was at ISU, the crowd at ISU hockey games used to chant, "**** the band, **** the band **** the band!" I'm not going that far. Just don't think they are that cool or important. Never heard any coach or player give it up to the band after a big win.

Most NFL teams don't have bands and a few don't have cheerleaders and the crowds still stay into it. So it isn't a crazy suggestion. And, before you post it, I know college is different then NFL. Just saying that bands are used for little more than tradition or nostalgia at the college level.

Ah, so you're one of the hockey attendees.. Might explain some.

BTW, before I continue with my post -- I'd like to point out that the Hockey Band is completely student run -- it is not connected to or run by the ISU Music Department in any way.

Anyways, of course coaches or players aren't going to thank the band after a big win! Why the hell would they? The band is just a special group of the fans.

I know what you're saying, that the crowd doesn't necessarily 'get into it' when the band is playing, but that's not really the point. The band is there to play music for the enjoyment of the fans, and to provide a unique gameday experience.
Believe it or not, some people do actually enjoy live music that isn't pumped through speakers. And also, believe it or not, some of those people aren't and never were in band.

As a final comment -- there's a lot of room between playing the fight song less often, and getting rid of the band.

DISCLAIMER: I was a proud member of the band, am a pround Alumni Band member, and proud of being a nerd, so suck it.

The band is great, BUT does overplay "Fights". When I watch the replay over the next couple days I'm going to count the number of times it's played. Nearly every timeout it gets played Boomer Sooner style.

Unfortunately "Fights" is also a participation killer compared to something like "Sandstorm", " Party Rock", etc.

The only thing I don't like about the band is where they sit. Anyone know why they moved them from the corner spot they'd been in for as far back as I can remember?

I think It can be annoying for some fans who attend every game but for the people who can only make a couple games a year or only one game a year it plays a major role into their game day experience. people would **** if the band was not part of the game

I know I will get blasted for agreeing with you, but it's just how I feel. The best moments today were when KU called timeouts and they when straight to the speakers. Sadly most of our fan base consists of "Old Fogies"

Even as an old fogiy, I agree - going to the right music at a timeout can really pump the crowd. When they go to Sandstorm now, everybody goes insane and I start looking for the onside kick. I think that song will live forever for us, every Cyclone will have a Pavlovian reaction to it. It used to be just another JockJams tune, but now...it's special.

That said, I do love the band. Just gotta have the right songs and right timing.

Maybe some lonely music major can arrange a Sandstorm beginning morphing into the fight song. That would be like a three-way with the Norwegian AND Swedish Bikini Teams....
