If this team plans to win 2 games over a weekend in March against teams that may or may not be good or bad matchups no matter how well either team has been playing, they'd better have it all together in December because nothing changes throughout a slog of a basketball season!

I always think about people’s perspectives on things like this. I always come back to one thing: High School Sports.

In High School if a team in any sport is ranked #1 before any games are played, there is a really really good chance they will be there at the end of the year at or near the very top.

Siegrist was the Big East Freshman of the year, has been on the First Team All Big East 3 times, and was the Big East player of the year last year. This is the same conference that contains powerhouse Uconn.

Siegrist is really really good.

Besides, her, Nova only had one other player in double figures with 14 points. Everyone else was held to 5 or fewer points. Also, after Siegrist, no other Wildcat had more than 5 rebounds.

In comparison, we had 5 players in double digits and 3 players with 9 or more rebounds. Our defense wasn't as proficient as we've seen creating steals, but we didn't need to risk foul trouble since we dominated the boards like we were.

It just doesn’t feel like we won though.

Didn't we just smoke the number 25 team in the country? Can't we save these types of posts for when we lose to someone? That's all I got

It was a good win but I don't think, other than Siegrist and Olson, the Wildcats looked very good at all. Our defense was pretty good most of the game but they were not even close to making a basket on a lot of their shots. First half I was thinking "Man, another brick!".

We did have a bad first five minutes after half but they only won that quarter by 4 points because they absolutely sucked on offense and we were pretty good on defense.

I mean isn't that the point? We made the top 25 team look bad. They are ranked and it's not like the first week of the season.

If this team plans to make it past the Sweet 16 they need to learn how to put their foot on people’s throat. They play with no tenacity. Our two time All-American F Joens got owned by their F Siegrist most of the game (which is how you end up with 32 and 12). Siegrist played the entire 40 min for them too. After awhile wouldn’t you take it personal?!?! I know CBF has forgotten more about coaching than I ever will know but I would love to see him get after people. I was waiting for it during the atomic meltdown against UNC out in Oregon. Nothing. Tonight? Nothing. Light a fire, Bill!!!
Siegrist got aggressive when Soares got in foul trouble in the 3rd period. When she goes out other teams start cutting constantly through the lane. ISU is learning how to play with Soares and will continue to get better as they figure out when to go to her inside vs shooting the 3. Soares is learning how to play at the D1 level. She needs to stay out of foul trouble. 2 of her fouls were hip bumps on girls running the baseline. How about ISU shooting 10-20 from 3? I thought Ryan stepped up in the 2nd half and was tenacious. Won by 12 vs Top 25 team away from Hilton. I'll take it and will stay patient as this team continues to learn. Watch out March!

I also think Bill probably recognizes he doesn't need to call timeouts to yell and scream at this team. With Ashley, Lexi, Emily, MEM, Kane, Diew, etc., we have plenty of experience. They know what Bill expects and they know what he's trying to accomplish. There's no sense wasting a timeout you may need later on to coach something they already know.

It's one thing I've always found kind of funny about sports fans. It's always lack of focus, lack of intensity, don't want to win, etc. But sometimes **** just happens. Sometimes your shots don't fall. Sometimes you make a mistake. **** happens.

Agree - one other thing in the women's game time outs are much more valuable at the end of games with the ability to advance the ball if wanted.

I'll respectfully disagree with this. This team has been improving through out the season integrating the new players is coming along pretty well and hopefully will continue. There is still plenty of room for growth on this team and I hope it continues. I believe a sweet 16 is a really reasonable goal and hopefully further if we play well.

We still have to fit Jardoa (spelling?) To work back into the line up to go along with Kane and Soares.

Side note Audi Crooks just scored her 2000 career point last wk also has 1000 rebounds.

Also fun fact of the 6 players in Iowa girls BB to have 2000 1000 3 of them attended ISU as their collegiate choice. Hallie Christofferson, Kelsey Bolte, Audie Crooks.

It was sarcasm.

The college basketball season is long and full of ebbs and flows. We're about to see that with the men.

Of course there can be room for improvement which is great considering ISU is already pretty good.

But even if a team is peaking in March, it just takes one bad day or matchup regardless of goals.

Gunner, please give us another post with thinly-veiled sarcasm so that the troll OP can give another thumbs up.

It’s always amazing to me that a game that boils down to getting the ball through the hoop more times than your opponent is so difficult for people to understand.

Sorry I missed it there have been so many "hot takes" sometimes I don't remember if the poster is reasonable or the we need to beat everyone by 20 every game person. With the women being better again the extra posters makes it harder to keep straight. You post enough I should have recognized it.

Ha, no worries.

Oddly I often wonder if those hot takes are actually joking. Unfortunately they're not.

The one in the mbb thread sticking to his guns about or leading rebounder not working hard enough was quite the take.

In the second half, at a media timeout, Bill grabbed Lexi and Emily to have a private chat and told the other players to go sit down. It cut to commercial, but I think you know he was lighting a fire. Bill also has to trust his players and they in him. I still think we are working out the bugs and finding our groove. If this is still the same at the end of January, I will be worried.

I didn't understand the 2nd half plan of forcing it under the basket to get triple teamed. When AJ gets underneath she will never throw it out.
If she has 3 on her 2 others are open and they need to break so she has someone to pass to which they don't always do
