A name I just stumbled across is Nick Sirriani. He's 34 and a Mount Union grad. Currently QBs coach of the San Diego Chargers. He was also on the staff of the KC Chiefs. He's probably learning more from Rivers than he is coaching him. He could sell his NFL experience and help develop a more pro-style QB. Just a thought.

while we are just throwing **** at the wall and seeing if it will stick, isn't Austin Flynn coaching somewhere? If everyone has a boner for former cyclones on the staff he could be one.

With Herman likely stay at Houston so I doubt Applewhite would leave unless it was for a head coaching job somewhere. Roosevelt Maggitt is a GA at Houston and Kenith Pope is their RB coach. Thought it was worth a mention.

This. No Chance Applewhite would ever consider leaving Houston to come here. A lot of guys here really overestimate our appeal to the coaching world.

Ayeni is a rising star. I'd have no issue with him as the OC

He recruited one RB who turned out to be great. RB coaches require the least amount of knowledge and experience, that's why schools almost always stick the newest guy on the staff as the RB coach. There's really nothing that suggests he is ready to call plays yet.

He is really close friends with Campbell. I mentioned it in a different thread, and San Diego fans were not enthused.

You meant to say nothing that suggests he is ready to call plays yet except for that time he spent at Toledo as the co-offensive coordinator, right?
The derp is strong.

In regards to our second half woes, I can't stop thinking about CPRs post game presser after the Iowa game. When asked about Iowa's second half adjustments. He stated "In game adjustments are highly overrated." Pretty amusing coming from a man who routinely got his clock cleaned in the second half.

I would have no problem keeping Sturdy as OC.

He's been an assistant HC, Co-OC, run game coordinator, and even played in the NFL.

The BEST time to call plays for the first time, is when your HC specializes in your side of the ball.

I wouldn't be mad if it were him, I think he could handle it. Hell im sure a RB coach would be inclined to run the ******* ball.

He was the only one with Matt at the bball intro....

Because he already got his promotion and is MC assistant head coach. Ayeni is a great recruiter and RB coach but he's never created his own offensive system and run one during a game...huge risk that would prob fail. Eventually he could be one at a smaller school. If Ayeni was going to be the OC he would have been it by now. Come on fellas.

IMO, Campbell has a plan. Campbell has an OC and DC in mind. The timing is not right to make the announcement.

FTR, Jason Candle would have obviously been Campbell's choice as the OC. Campbell is shrewd and organized and was prudent enough to hold off announcing that Jason Candle would be the OC until Toledo made a decision. And Campbell recommended that Candle take the Toledo job. They are good friends. I am sure Campbell is happy that his friend was able to get the Toledo job.

Campbell is a relentless recruiter. I expect him to recruit the coaches he wants as well as the players. Campbell exudes confidence. Campbell just to appear that he knows exactly what he wants to do and then goes about doing it. Campbell has "it".

Not sure how long Campbell will be at Iowa State. He could be here a long time or he may not. Campbell does say that he thinks Iowa State is a "special place". And it appears that Campbell is selling that to recruits. His story that he experienced Iowa State when Toledo played us in 2014 and that he called his wife telling her about Iowa State is a compelling story. Iowa State has a good track record of getting recruits if we can just get them to visit. IMO, Campbell will get better recruits to visit Iowa State and take a look. This will result in better recruiting classes.

Bottom line is that I trust Campbell to get the guys he wants. Coaches and recruits.

My preference would be to have Ayeni as co-OC/running game coordinator and get Iowa Western's head coach, Scott Strohmeier as QB coach and co-OC/passing game coordinator. I would bet that would also get Jake Waters here as a GA (let's not miss out on him a 2nd time). Toledo has recruited some Iowa Western players in the past so I would presume there is some familiarity. It would also help with the Iowa recruiting ties and Juco ties as well. I think that is one area missing on this staff and we couldn't get a better fit. Then get a DC with some B12 experience and Texas and other southern recruiting ties and this could be an excellent staff.

You know what, I agree with you 100% ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ The Iowa Western HC has been a big name in juco ranks for a while now

When was he ever Co-Offensive Coordinator? Not an attack on him but his NFL career consisted of playing pre-season games, so that doesn't help his case of making a good OC. You guys are taking the fact that he recruited Mike Warren and making him into something he is not. Look at his resume below and tell me that is someone who is normally hired to be OC at a power conference school.

Coaching Experience
2011-13: Toledo Associate Head Coach/Run Game Coordinator
2010-11: Toledo Running Backs
2008-10: Northwestern Graduate Assistant

Other sites say that Louis Ayeni was a Co-Offensive Coordinator. It appears that he definitely had more input than just a position coach.

I want to keep this thread alive until official word states other wise. So any new buzz on who will be Iowa State's new OC? It won't be Ayeni so stop with that. I hear there has been talks with Sturdy, but not concrete. I still think bringing in Iowa westerns HC for QB coach is a great idea.
For now though I am at a loss for OC, whom out of the schools that fired their HC would be a good fit for ISU, open to the thought of it? Do we go with a up in comer from the AAC? Is this were we tie in the Texas recruiting ties? Or a staff member that has got their feet wet in the big 12? Thoughts?

If there has been talks with Sturdy it means there is no real plan. Hope MC can do better.
