2013 is the
first year Charlotte has a football program since 1948. In their first year of FCS football, they're currently 4-3. Mullen has been a college football coach since December 1994. He has coaching experience at Ohio, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Charlotte. He was the OC at WVU when Pat White was there with Bill Stewart as the head coach.
Jeff Mullen Bio - Charlotte 49ers
He isn't coaching at another BCS school which takes away the point other posters have that no one is going to move away from an OC job at a BCS school to come coach at ISU.
He's also a midwest guy, originally from Ohio.
Strength of schedule and level of division aside, below is a statistical comparison of the two offenses. Charlotte's roster consists of mostly freshman, both true and redshirt, and most players are from the state of North Carolina.
