I don’t know that they did anything differently. They did some zone stuff, but it wasn’t like the built everything around it like Iowa used to do, or like Colts used to run when they had James and Manning. They ran the hell out that zone stretch and would run PA off it. I remember the Colts got out there so fast that Manning was about diving to hand it off. Breece would’ve been the perfect zone stretch guy.

I’m not sure that our guys are ideal for zone blocking. Not sure if the lateral quickness is there.
If we don’t zone block, what do we do?

Duh!
I go back to this but I think we lost the WSU game in 2018 strictly because of the false start penalties we had.

And then coincidentally they scored on a critical play where they blatantly false started and it wasn’t called.
WSU was clapping or doing something else to draw off our OL. I remember an OLman complaining to refs and also talking out our staff to adjust. It’s been discussed here before. Also, OU had a plan for the title game too. People tend to focus on the extreme examples where teams literally game planned a unique attack of our OL.

So that’s what we do?
Seems like most teams ISU does some of both, but I think Manning likes to do more gap blocking. For example get the C or a G wide or to the second level and do some down blocking and double teams including with the TEs.

Imma be honest and say that I can't tell whether people are running a zone or man blocking scheme just by watching a game real time as a fan. There are hints, but nothing is a 100% reliable tell without knowing how it is coached. If I watched film of a play over and over - seeing how the defense is aligned, watching each lineman individually multiple times to see what he's doing as the play develops - I can usually figure it out. But I can't do that during a game, especially one I'm emotionally invested in. I can read blocking technique that way but not scheme.

Most people here can’t. Which includes the ones claiming they can.
