The refs were very very very bad tonight, and I absolutely hate to talk about refs. Having said that, a lot of Osun's fouls tonight were monumentally stupid decisions by him. Picking up #5 on a free throw your own team is shooting *when you have 4 fouls* is just head-scratchingly dumb.

It was actually 51 fouls called in the game.

Fifty. One.

More than enough to foul out every starter on both teams.

Normally I think refs lose us games because of their general incompetence and unconscious bias towards certain teams (mainly home/away). But this is one I'm genuinely suspicious of if only that one play where the ref barged in to call a foul on Grill for getting bowled over on a rebound after the other ref called a travel.

Let's not act like there is a larger conspiracy at play. This was just an example of completely incompetent officiating. Nothing more, nothing less. BUT, they absolutely affected the game and there is no excuse for that level of incompetence at this level.

Nope, we DO NOT practically foul out the entire opposing team, EVER. This was rare air for HORRENDOUS officiating.

I am certain this is how teams fans feel. You may not think it, but if you leave the ISU bubble, they absolutely do.

Inexcusable officiating and it’s rare for me to blame the officiating.
It was absolutely awful. They had no control over the game and called like what, 30 fouls on us?

I don't have any stats in from of me but I'd be willing to bet very few teams have won with that many fouls called on them.

so for reals.... why the hell do we foul so much, game in and game out, even when we win? i'm assuming it's a feature of the defense and not a bug. do we really not have the ability as a team to adjust to the tightness of a game call by the refs when it's not going our way? this seems ridiculous. every road game we lose features lopsided reffing and what seems to be zero defensive adjustment by the team (if not even worse fouling in the second half).

The amount of soft fouls was absolutely astonishing. I thought the announcers did a fairly good job of calling them out. So many ticky tack calls.

And the WV player came over his back!
