I don't understand why everyone claims we have no shooters. Both of our starting off guards (Wigginton and Shayok) will shoot around 40% from three next year I promise you. Wigginton shot 40+% from three as a true freshman. I promise you in a more free flowing offense which generates open looks Shayok will be around 40% as well. Lewis has the potential to be a freak from three just needs more experience and confidence.

Let's keep in mind Naz Long was a career 38% from three. Matt Thomas was 40%. Loved both of those players but at times they were truly one-dimensional. Wigginton and Shayok are more well-rounded players.
Lots of promises there - are you a politician?

I had concerns given Wiggington's pct out of high school, the fact that Shayok was 19-58 his last year at Virginia, the fact that Terrence Lewis was abysmal this year and the fact that NWB shot 32% this year and has an injury that nobody can seem to diagnose or give the fans a legitimate time frame for recover. I WAS really concerned and thought Mooney would be a great pickup over the unknowns with NWB and T. Lewis. But given the fact that you PROMISED that Wiggington and Shayok will shot 40% all those concerns based in fact just washed away.

Not trying to rain on your parade, however, we truly are set at guard next year. Unless an all-conference caliber player is out there i.e. DeAndre Kane let's forego any grad transfer talk and build for 2019/2020. NWB, Wigginton, Shayok, THT is an extremely talented backcourt rotation with Lewis in his second year with more experience as your three point sniper.

I agree we’re in great shape, but you all sound like Hawk fans when you call a 29% 3PT shooter our 3PT sniper for next year.:)

So you ignore Wigginton’s actual college percentage and Lewis’ really good finish? Must suck as a fan to seek out the worst in everything.

The fact remains that their may not be a grad transfer out there that will play over our senior PG NWB, Wigginton, Shayok or fringe 5 star THT. Why would you blow our only scholarship on a bench player next year and give up an opportunity at a sit out transfer like McEwen who very likely is a two year starter? Makes zero logical sense whatsoever.

Where did I say Lewis was a "3 point sniper"? Why is everyone so obsessed with a three point sniper? Don't need one to win. Give me guads who can score at all three levels and who are athletic enough to defend. We've got that in Wigginton, Shayok and THT

It's literally your last clause in the post I quoted.

But Mooney CAN score at all three levels, and is strong. At one time during a tournament that I watched him play in, an opposing coach remarked he could be NBA material. I get what everyone is saying, tho. That how could we get him or guarantee him much playing time with our depth at guard? Well, I don't think anyone thought that we'd finish this season with basically 6 healthy players either, and it happened. Nobody can 'guarantee' that shooters shoot 40%, starters won't get injured (see NWB and Solomon), or that freshmen will be impact players. I say, you can never have enough good and experienced players/scorers on your team, but thats just me.

It LITERALLY is? I LITERALLY and I quote said Lewis has the POTENTIAL to be a freak from 3. Just needs more experience and confidence. How do you misconstrue that as me saying he is a 3 point sniper. You're clueless.

And you choose to ignore the first 80% of the season where he got spot minutes. Because that will be the exact type of minutes he gets next year.

My point is a shooting guard is a necessity next year because you need 3 shooters to space the floor properly. And I know you don't disagree with me on that concept.

If you know you are getting McEwen then I agree that should be target 1A but Mooney would help this team substantially next year.

I presume Mooney is an off guard, correct? Who is he playing over at the 2/3 position? Wiggington, Shayok or THT? That spot on our roster is literally loaded with talent.

I agree, and I think we will have that. I don’t think you can discount the fact that Lewis struggled early in his freshman season (not unusual at all) and came on down the stretch against really good competition (plus he has the size to get shots off).

He would play at the two with NWB and Wiggington. Shayok and THT will play the majority of their time at the 3 & 4 if this team is going to be sucessful.

I agree with you that 6"5 alleviates some concerns but it took Matt Thomas until his junior year when he got more consistent minutes to really hit his stride.

Mercy. Shayok is a 2/3 guard. He won't play one minute next year as a 4. THT is more of a 2/3 than he is a 3/4. If we are playing small ball 4 guard lineups Talley will see the majority of the time at the 4. Is Griffin is the real deal as a freshman that is another likely candidate as a small ball 4 man.

Griffin isn't going to play more than 12 minutes a game if we have a NCAA Tournament squad.

Guys I think Talen is reading this thread and want you to know he'll solve the shooting question on next year roster.
THT5

@Thortontucker I am a Shooting Guard!

That would be hilarious if he's actually reading this. Hi THT!
