Who does he play over? N

I presume Mooney is an off guard, correct? Who is he playing over at the 2/3 position? Wiggington, Shayok or THT? That spot on our roster is literally loaded with talent.

Look, I get your point. But a four-guard line-up isn't out of the question much like KU did this year. Open things up more for Lard and/or Solomon. How many times did opponents leave our 4-man open (Solomon, Talley, and Beverly) just daring us to shoot. Besides, I thought Shayok was more of a slasher type scorer than a 3 pt. shooter. I mean, really, who is our true '4' man in this line-up anyway? I'd love to have perimeter threats at all four spots, whether they're a guard or not.

Lineup of

Wiggington
NWB
THT
Shayok
Lard

You could switch screens 2-4 an you have a true positionless basketball with the ability to expose multiple mismatches.

Those are your best five players and that should be a lineup that we should see at least 15 minutes a game.

So, four guard line-up....I like it. With plenty of depth and options to go bigger if need be on defense.

You can never have too much talent on a roster. I'd much rather get a sit out guy and find it highly unlikely we'd go after a grad transfer but if we do it's because he's really really good

Okay...rethinking this! I'll go with the masses on this one. Depth is at shooting guard, so a sit-out transfer it is! Hope we avoid those dang injuries like this past season. (Plus hope Mooney doesn't end up in the big 12... lol)

I get your point as well. Only thing I was trying to reiterate was let's not mortgage the future when we are already set for guards next year. If a DeAndre Kane type talent is out there I'm all for it. Otherwise keep in mind we are replacing NWB, Shayok, Talley and possibly Wigginton next year. Not interested in another down year.

Also agreed on your four guard lineups. I think we'll see a ton of that next year and it'll be damn tough to guard. Rich with 6'5" to 6'7" guards.

He would play at the two with NWB and Wiggington. Shayok and THT will play the majority of their time at the 3 & 4 if this team is going to be sucessful.

Haha THT himself tweeted an hour ago "I am a shooting guard" Maybe he is reading this. Dude isn't a 4 man power forward banging down low. He's an elite shooting guard.

Are you familiar with small-ball? Svi wasn’t a 4 man power forward either, but yet he was out there with Graham, Newman, and Vick.

THT has also talked about seeing how we used Nadar and Burton all over the court.

Yeah all that matters is who can guard who defensively. With Shayok and THT (both big guards), we should be able to run some 4 guard lineups and not get blasted in the paint.

Are you talking about the senior 6'8" Svi? THT is 6'5" and an incoming freshman. Little bit of a difference there. THT isnt coming to ISU to bang down low with the trees. He's a shooting guard. Listen, I already said I was pumped for some four guard lineups. Talley will be seeing a majority of the minutes at the four when we go small. And honestly, I'd guess NWB defends the opposing teams four before THT does. Babb has experience playing a small ball four and will be a redshirt senior as opposed to THT who will be a 17 year old freshman.

THT should let ESPN and 247 know that he isn't a small forward.

If THT can make the NBA, more likely as a guard. He'll want to play that position. Yes, In high school he was more of a SF.

So, no, you’re not familiar with small-ball.

Svi wasn’t a 4-man power forward, yet he played with three other guards. What’s Svi’s wingspan and weight compared to THT?
THT will be a mismatch. Playing him alongside three other guards that defend the perimeter doesn’t mean playing him to bang down low with the trees. It means we’re playing our best players as much as possible and are very tough to defend. Shayok and Talley, too.

I had concerns given Wiggington's pct out of high school, the fact that Shayok was 19-58 his last year at Virginia, the fact that Terrence Lewis was abysmal this year and the fact that NWB shot 32% this year and has an injury that nobody can seem to diagnose or give the fans a legitimate time frame for recover. I WAS really concerned and thought Mooney would be a great pickup over the unknowns with NWB and T. Lewis. But given the fact that you PROMISED that Wiggington and Shayok will shot 40% all those concerns based in fact just washed away.
Travis Hines had a Q/A with Prohm (part 2) article on his twitter acct March 22 that then was in the ames tribune the next day. Prohm talks about 3 pt shooting and is great to explain all about HIS view of the team for next year. I wish I could post a link to it. After reading the article it would seem to support what foreveriowan and cyclonepride are saying.

The point is that THT should play the position that allows Iowa State to excel. That may or may not be the "2"

So he didn’t say it would be a weakness?

He also talked about how Young’s outside shooting was going to be s part of the offense last year.

I said all along THT in my opiniom will play the 3 in college. I also said he is more of a 2/3 than he is a 3/4. I understand small ball.

This entire argument started by me saying it makes no sense to go after a grad transfer guard as we are loaded at that position next year. The fact that Prohm and staff are targeting a SIT OUT transfer validates my point. I'll give you 5:1 odds on a $100 bet we use our scholarship on a SIT OUT guard in lieu of a grad transfer guard. You are wrong sorry.

Svi defended 6'11" likely #1 draft pick Marvin Bagley III in the elite 8 game and shut him down. How that isn't playing down low with the trees is beyond me. If you think THT at 6'5" is coming to ISU to do that regularly I just don't know what to tell you.
