Ames
Ankeny has completely mailed it in on snow removal and ice prep this year.

Ames did fine all major roads are fine. I live on a road in west Ames that if you dont live on it you would never go down it. So its a mess but meh, I know we arent a priority.

My street in Ankeny was cleared right away, but I live on a snow route. The town has exploded in terms of expansion, so I'm sure their total miles of snow removal has increased dramatically.

Oh, you mean they've taken the WDM approach that mother nature will take care of clearing the streets, and we don't use any sand/salt on the streets because they "don't work," according to our Public Services director.

WDM generally does the best job in the metro. They're always pretreating and generally getting things removed down to bare pavement quickly after.

Ankeny clearly didn't do any pretreating on Wednesday (I know WDM did as I saw it) and roads have still been a mess today. Coming back from WDM to Ankeny last night around 10pm, it was an immediate difference in quality even from the county roads.

EXACTLY. Streets in DM were basically just water and Ankeny was an ice sheet at the same time.

We have semester tests scheduled for next week, starting Tuesday through Thursday. For some reason our school likes to schedule games during testing week to allow the kids to relax during the day. After seeing the forecast, I went to the asst. principle and told him this morning that we should move the two tests scheduled for next Thursday up to the other two days. If we are in session Thursday, they could then just have their Warrior games that day, but at least the test would be over.

Unbelievable that people that have master's degrees cannot go to the National Weather Service site, and be proactive and make the change, and stop a major headache for everyone before it happens.

Thursday morning before 7a I slowed down to turn into my local Casey's to get coffee...and just kept going. My drive down Irvindale from north Ankeny to Oralabor was me driving with my shoulders up around my ears. Once I got to Oralabor and the rest of the way to work, roads were just wet.

Thursday looks like a real joy! Had plans to go to the women’s game but the walk into Hilton may be painful. -40 wind chills!

Ooh, now I am interested in maybe roundtripping down. Nasty weather would cut down on the crowd and maybe I could grab a front row, or close, upstairs.
