Has he even been on TV lately? Ann is a little easier on the eyes anyway.
I thought I just saw him on this past week maybe but I could be wrong. I watch 13 most of the time unless there is some programming that pre-empts their news so I don't watch a lot of 8. Agree about Ann though. Chris was always an odd fit in this market. He was not from the Midwest so he struggled to connect with the local culture here IMO and pushing his climate change agenda all the time probably did not win him a lot of fans either. I remember when he first started he really struggled with severe weather coverage when he was mispronouncing town names and just not very familiar with Iowa geography in general.

Even with Brett leaving 13 their weather room still has a lot of tenure with Ed, Jerriann, and Megan and Gabe is pretty knowledgeable and likable for the short time he's been there. And now they just added Jason Parkin to the full time staff too who is a former KCCI guy and has been in the market for a long time.

(treading delicately on this) I think the climate stuff is more his passion anyways. Many tv news personalities are leaving the industry due to poor hours/low pay. Probably a good move in the long run.

Not trying to stir up controversy but just generally speaking your average viewer in this market probably doesn't want to constantly hear about climate change issues with their weather forecasts. That's just the reality of it, he maybe would have had a warmer reception to it in another market but in Iowa not so much. Completely agree about the burnout factor with TV these days as you are seeing a lot of good personalities leaving for more steady hours. Brett is still going to be involved with weather in some form with Polk County Emergency Management and we've seen other TV people leave for jobs in communications or public relations for businesses or organizations in the area too. The morning and 10pm news casts are just rough for anyone trying to have some normal hours to spend with their family as either you are going to bed early to do the morning show or working late to do the evening.

Wow, that doesn't sound like Iowans at all. Must be that "Iowa Nice" you always hear about.

Probably the dude I went to high school who didn't pass 9th grade science who would always post "Global Warming My ***" whenever the temperature would drop below zero.

I mean, a cold day in Runnells definitely is indicative of global weather patterns across an entire planet.

Really not unexpected considering how everything seems to be ratcheted up to 11 with threats of violence on pretty much any topic. The past 6 months seem like an accelerated death spiral of society for some reason.

Agree about the hours as that would be awful if you had a family. Low pay though? I'm guessing most of the on air personalities make 6 figures.

Matador, TX just got wiped. Some of the tree damage looks EF-4 for sure. Livestock just roaming around. Check out Val Castor on YouTube or Facebook for live stream.

Yeeaaahhhh.......no. Maaaaaayyyybe Keith and Ed can ask/deserve/are getting in the low 6 figures, but I believe they'd be the only two in this market.

And only after their decades of experience.

Maybe not common for this market. Back when I worked in the banking world I had a loan for an on-air personality for a major city out east (might have been Boston) and they were making north of 300k. I just assumed that was normal.

We've probably been spoiled having long-time guys like that around in our market. Seems like the lifespan for those in tv news is shorter and shorter.

Oh in a market like that I believe it especially decades ago. I would feel comfortable saying most of the talent in DSM is making 45-60, CR 40-55. The market size just doesn’t support it for what they make these days. The times of news stations basically printing money are long over.
