Linn-Mar dismissing early Wednesday and Thursday with all practices etc. to occur inside before 8AM. In part announcing it now to allow for extra planning as they are expecting Alliant to turn off their power and this will not allow for the normal after school care to be available.

What? Turn off power? For how long? Doesn't seem wise unless they plan to turn it back on at some point.

It's part of their cost savings program thing. They save thousands a year but Alliant may turn off their power for grid savings. From what I remember in the past it is generally 1PM or so until 8PM. Long enough to get through peak usage and back on to get things in line for the next day and food etc. not spoiling.

Brain dead neighbor decided that 4:30 was a good time to mow his yard. 75 year old in shorts and no shirt with belly hanging over. What a sight to behold!

Went to an outdoor play yesterday that I was hoping would get cancelled. Attendee demo skews retirement age and older. After about the sixth elderly person being helped out, they paused the play to help someone down front and center who could not stand and family had clearly been working on getting them out - they came back 5 minutes later and cancelled it. But it was just baking us in the heat. I had a fan, shade, hat, and ice pack and I was *still* sweating and hot. There were multiple people in dark, heavy shirts/pants, black dresses.

We have an outdoor musical going on in Cedar Rapids this month, final weekend is this coming weekend. They do NOT do afternoon matinees, for obvious reasons … even the Sunday show is at night. Having an outdoor theatre production in the afternoon in August is really not wise.

(I’m actually in an outdoor production in Iowa City between September 8 and 17, but we aren’t doing Sunday matinees, either. That’s just crazy.)

I can't imagine it won't be moved. We will still be in the thick of the heat then. I am officiating my first HS game ever Friday night. We will see how much I screw up.
Hey, congrats on the officiating gig. I was going to go into that back in 2010 after my son graduated - even went to the first HS officials’ organizing meeting - and then I got my radio play-by-play spot instead.

It's 74 and breezy in the Twin Cities. We are a day behind you for the "We're All Going to Die" weather. Going to 24 degrees hotter tomorrow.

Went to pay insurance bill today. Receptionist said Garner Hayfield Ventura was supposed to start Wednesday. Now delayed until Friday or maybe next week.

Local high school currently has football practice going on.
My brother is the head coach for a team in NE Iowa and they are practicing at 6 am all week. Probably will be fairly tough/different to go 6 am all week then a 7 pm game Friday but not a whole lot else you can do with this ****

Hell yeah. I just got my coaching certificate last month and I've thought about getting my ref one done for when I'm not coaching or doing color commentary on the radio.
