Wisdom is 30 HR player with low BA and OBP. His career OBP is .291. One player is released and other player is our future?

Wisdom never hit 30 home runs and was consistently batting around .200 when he was in Chicago.

Cassie will likely have alot higher OPS than Wisdom ever did.

Yes, keyword potential. I'm very worried about his strikeout rate facing AAA pitching.

If he had played entire season, he would have 30 HR season. I am not confident that Caissie will hit above .250 in the major. He is having a “monster season” in AAA but his BA is only .276

What exactly was the point of trading Cam Smith and Paredes for Kyle Tucker then? And what have the Cubs not done this season to justify going for it this year?

Not getting a SP that can start a playoff game makes this a failure of a trade deadline

We haven’t not signed Tucker yet…

Agree that getting a SP isn’t ideal but you don’t trade away the future for a gamble because I didn’t see any slam dunks out there with reasonable price tags.

You’re not showing what you think you are. Bad W-L on a bad team, duh. Good K-rate, WHIP 12% better than league average and an ERA driven by some bad luck, his FIP is 4.11 which is right at league average.

Soroka is not a star, but he’s a solid back end option and has peripherals that would indicate he’s been pitching better than the results.

Not thrilled he’s the only SP add, but he’s not a bad one nonetheless

The future is now. We have a team that has a legitimate chance to win it all this year. We may not have another opportunity for decades. Some prospects will develop into PCA caliber players, but most of them will never play in the major.

Now that that’s over here’s my best case scenario for 27.

Resign Tucker

Inform Happ he’s not going to be one of our top 4 OF hope he’s willing to move.

Trade Taillon sign Peralta

Trade Amaya for a SP with multiple years on team control.

Resign Castro use his flexibility to use Ballestareos as a third catcher / DH/PH/ 1B option

Moving on Happ and Taillon saves about 40 mil to the 90 we’ll already have available, 90 of that 130 should be able to sign Tucker and Peralta

He is better than his record but he is not an elite pitcher.

Other contending teams added top tier players but we are settling for cheaper options. Cubs sucked for 100+ years not because of the curse of Billy Goat. We sucked for 100+ years because our past management was not committed to winning.

Some did, most didn't. Mets, Phillies & Padres added. Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Marlins, Giants & Dodgers didn't make major additions. And some teams like the Cardinals & D-Backs subtracted.

I don't recall seeing any top "available" pitchers traded. Kelly with the D-backs is the only starter I saw that I would consider a playoff arm. IMO it came down to the selling teams wanting too much, so it's not only the Cubs who refused to pay. Would be curious if part of the problem was teams wanted Horton if they were going to give up a top SP.

I don't read into the Cubs keeping Caissie as an indicator Tucker is gone (although I think he is). IMO Caissie still a Cub because teams wanted too much besides Caissie to get the deal done. If I look at the Kelly trade, the D-backs got 3 SP prospects. I don't think the Cubs have SP prospects that could get the job done. Maybe Horton + Brown +?? gets it done and IMO the Cubs like the future of Horton & Brown.
