Imo it was pretty similar to what we saw a couple of our buy game opponents do before break, just with better players (on one side of the court anyway). Same careless TOs tooTJ didn't look like he was pressing. Couldn't get a read from him or our bench during our 8 min scoreless streak to start the second half.
May just be our first middle of the week conference game. Felt like a weird night from the start.
TT exposed plenty to work on. W and keep moving.
Do you honestly think the avg fan has any clue what it takes to coach at this level? Just observe social media, most people are morons, and the loudest are usually the most nNellie's.Agree. The constant appeal to authority to shut down any criticism at all is annoying IMO. Should every thread just be people saying "X coach knows best" back and forth?
I just think it's pretty stupid to attack a coach when the way we played won the first B12 game in over 6t00 days, and has us with 6.5 times more wins than all of last year. I still trust in TJ and what he's doing... don't think many offenses could have run through that defensive aggression.Agree. Anyway, tonight felt a bit like the football team with the defense carrying and the offense being stagnant/not making any adjustments. The defense was good enough to win and for that, I'm thankful. Hoping the staff can figure out a way to manufacture some points when the usual offense isn't getting it done. The tape from tonight should hopefully be a good resource to work with.
If we hit 2-3 more three's (and we had a few wide open ones we missed) against Baylor we have a win over the #1 team on our resume. Tech missed them. That's that.If TTU could hit a free throw, ISU loses easily.
COnditt was back to his 4 fouls, which made running it through him for longer periods much harder.Imo it was pretty similar to what we saw a couple of our buy game opponents do before break, just with better players (on one side of the court anyway). Same careless TOs too
I know the staff likes running offense through Conditt at the high post, but that is NOT what to do against this defense tonight. Much easier to overplay when the guy with the ball is not a threat to even pass.
It is just going to be ugly when a defense is allowed to play that way and we shoot poorly. But it gets real bad, like 4 points in 10 minutes, when we have unforced TOs and make don't make needed adjustments.
If TTU could hit a free throw, ISU loses easily.
No offense taken. I like the discussion but totally understand where you're coming from. I just want to see people actually defend the decisions made by coaches and not just say people shouldn't be allowed to disagree/criticize/whatever. There have been some good points made in here about whether or not there really were adjustments to be made tonight and I find that far more interesting than "none of us know enough to say anything anyway" which just makes me not understand why they're here or posting anyway.Do you honestly think the avg fan has any clue what it takes to coach at this level? Just observe social media, most people are morons, and the loudest are usually the most nNellie's.
Many of us see the issues and don't want to hear bad takes from morons. We pay coaches great money to do their job. A good analyst on CF helps the team in no way. That's my take on the negative Nellies. *** I have no idea your post history so this is in no way directed to you personally.
Prohm actually had some pretty good offensive success against Bread/Adams defenses if i recall.
We can't have Hunter, Gabe, and Conditt out there while running high post offense past the three point line, Conditt with his back to the bucket.
I guess the turnovers concern me when watching but looks like 18 from box score. Felt like more somehow. I do think they weren’t calling some hacks by Tech.
Yeah, Vegas line was 66-61 ISU. Both teams 15 under their projections. It's not often you feel comfortable with the under even if it goes to an OT or two.
Don't know if it was meI believe you had mentioned something about this at some point (and if it was someone else I apologize and will give them credit), but there are some trends offensively over the last several games now (that's including some of the patsy non-cons at the end of the year that are more than just one-off things.
It's true, and people need to realize yes, we have still won in spite of those. But against Baylor and tonight as well, we see how hard it's going to be to win in conference. So a few of those offensive red flags just need to be cleaned up a bit, not even a lot, but just a bit and this team can be extremely good. And that's because the defense is so good.
Yeah the turnovers are rough. I think Stansbury said on the latest podcast with Scott that we were 20% turnovers on our possessions. That is not a good number to have, especially in a league as defensive-minded as the Big 12.Don't know if it was me
But Yeah, 16 TOs against CSU (many unforced). Jackson St and CSU overplayed the wings and limited ability to pass with on-ball pressure. Add in TT being allowed to be more physical, and we need a counter.
The good news is at a high level we did exactly what you should do against Baylor. Attack the paint, get twos. good strategy
But our tactics tonight didn't give us a chance to do that.
Stop bringing conditt to Hunter at (or past) the three point line. Conditt is not doing **** out there, and Hunter not taking a 3P off the screen. TT would have bumped Conditt off of rolling or slipping, and Hunter can't finish in these types of games. Plus gabe on the wing in this set is brutal. we're lucky if Gabe is in bounds right now.
Add in some poor shooting when we did have good looks, and guys got super timid. No one wanted to make a play
TJ looked like he was passing a kidney stone and he was unhappy with how weak the pain was.Don't feel like TJ/staff are sleeping much tonight or the next few days.
