Not beating a dead horse, some players respond better to different methods. Jameel McKay loved to play under Fred, but hated Prohm because from rumors Prohm made him go to class/practice. Remember when he basically checked out half way through the 15-16 season?

That was connected to being suspended for the February road trip to okie state. What he supposedly did would have lead to dismissal today.

I also have noticed Conditt is not really posing and jawing like he use to and seems much more focused. Maybe that has to do with being one of two bigs ISU has now, and/or his last chance as a senior or that TJ is a better fit for him even though he is a Prohm recruit. It happens.

Everyone enjoys playing under Hoiberg/TJ over Prohm

With 2 min left in the game, a Memphis fan behind me taps me on the shoulder and asks if we made the Sweet 16 last year. After my laughter stopped, and I told him we won 2 games, he says, ‘2 games in the Tournament?”. After my laughter stopped again and I made it clear that it was 2 total and we have a new coach and players, his reply was, ‘How is that possible? They play so well together!”

Shoot, I don't even think they let us watch the Sweet 16 last year.
Maybe this year, though....

It took Monte 4 years of college plus a year in the G League to be ready for the NBA. Hunter is not more polished than Monte was and, like Big Game at this stage, is not a knock-down shooter. He is more springy and quick than Monte but making it in the NBA is not easy for short (by basketball standards) guys even with physical gifts (see Wigginton, Lindell).

I've been wrong on these evaluations but I don't see him ready for the NBA after 2 years ag ISU. He could very well be a 4-year guy.
I love Monte, he’s my avatar pic for a reason. He had a very solid freshman year as well. But, so far Hunter is much more polished than Monte was at this point in Monte’s freshman year. It’s not even close in my view.

Anyone know where to find a replay of this? I was driving home from football and missed most of it. I wanted to watch before tomorrow’s game but don’t see it listed on espn +

I see Memphis lost to previously 2-5 Georgia. Maybe this won't be viewed as such a big win at tournament time unless Memphis can turn raw talent into more Ws.

Not a great loss there, but an road loss to a power conference team isn't the end of the world, even if that team had been struggling. Memphis certainly isn't #9, but I'm confident it will be a good win at the end of the year.

I think Monte played more under control and was a better shooter as a Freshman. Hunter is quicker, a better athlete and maybe a slightly better defender and play maker. Hunter is asked to do a lot more than Morris was, so it's not surprising he makes more mistakes.

Monte played more of the 2 as a freshman an iirc really didn't do much for scoring but didn't have to either.

I don't think he even started until well into conference season.

Boy, Memphis is hitting rock bottom. They are another example of a team that's high on talent and low on character.

The major miss by the staff was not identifying a true PG to unlock Duren and Bates as freshman. They have issues but too much raw talent I have trouble believing they wont figure it out and stack some wins, especially in the AAC. The win will look better once tourney selection time comes than today.

Also plenty of good wins out there for ISU if they're able.

I hope so, but I'm not too confident. When I watched that Memphis team, I didn't really see all the basketball talent everyone else thinks there is. I saw off the charts athleticism with mediocre skill, but as we saw with Texas for years, if you don't have a good PG, chances are you aren't going to be good. They will overwhelm some teams with their athleticism and muck up some games enough to win, but I think at best this team sneaks in the tourney. I hope I'm wrong, but I see most of their problems as things you don't solve in-season.

The past Texas comparison is an good one... but even those Barnes teams would get enough wins to make the tourney and be a Q1 win just didn't match the wins the talent suggested.
Mem is going through a rough patch but it is only December with multiple new players they can look much better a month from now once they settle in their rols.

When assessing the quality of our victory based on what they've done since, I think it's necessary to factor in how our demolishing affected their confidence (particularly for a very young team). They've lost some close games since. Too talented to stay down for long, but they do need to figure out their situation at PG
