Exactly. It's not like it is difficult to move a Sunday soccer/volleyball game to Saturday afternoon or Saturday night depending on when your football team is playing.

The conference tourney championships on selection Sunday would be the only time there's a definitive negative impact on the league.

I'd be fine if they want to join football only, our 18 game schedule minus the two worst basketball schools in Big 12 history is the toughest conference schedule in the nation, much tougher than the Big East. BYU is just as good a hoops school as A&M, probably better historically. The minute our new hoops setup was revealed every expert claimed it the most difficult, we won't always get a bonus for that if we're on the bubble.

Going to 16 like we used to have and the B10, ACC, SEC, P12, have would be fine.

Big 12 Conference tournament has not had a Sunday game for several years.

For those that think NIU is a good idea...where do you get your drugs?

They're not a good idea, but they're not the worst idea getting mentioned. That's all I was saying. Both in terms of recent football quality and media exposure.

Exposes me for shutting down the whole tournament the minute ISU is out ;-)

I feel pretty strong about the two extra games against A&M just becoming 16 games and two random home dates. I don't trust the committee to reward us for playing the toughest conference schedule every year, it probably still would be with 18 games and BYU subbing in for A&M.

Latest Rumor

Since the Aggies are gone I thought it would be good to start a new thread with information on the expansion of the conference....not your brainstorms but new information coming down the pike.

I'll start:

BYU board and their thoughts on the invite to the Big 12

This from TBS and CB, both citing a connected BYU booster--that the assurances that BYU requested from Texas and OU have been given, that the core aspects of the deal is in place and that BYU to Big XII is basically happening. Really soon.

For what it is worth, I ran this by my little bro who is often a great source for me, who works with a few former BYU football players and 1 well connected CC booster, and he said they all heard the same.

I work in graphic identity and branding. Some might make light of it, but there is a substantial financial benefit to Big 12 keeping its name. If actually having 12 teams does that, there is a bonus in terms of brand identity. Especially since we're an entity viewed as unstable now.

People on this board always say team "X" doesn't bring anything. They might not bring a new market or a top ten football tradition, but as far as a brand, having 12 teams and keeping the Big 12 name helps.

Even if the league were to somehow go to 14, changing the name loses some brand equity.

Certainly not breathing a sigh of relief...but if true...is very assuring.

It really makes too much sense not to happen. Nobody loses. BYU wins big. OU and Texas get what they want, teams like KSU, ISU, Baylor and half of the Big East have security they may not have had with a total Big 12 collapse.

A team like Boise State, Hawaii or Houston avoids the 4 mega conference scenario where they're basically relegated to a new division with no title shot. They have a chance to move to a bigger conference later, still get a BCS invite for a 12-0 season, or get an at large bid in a future playoff system.

The Big 12 should have done this and gone to 11 a year ago, really stupid not to have. There was one team out there that clearly made sense and added more than they took away. Why wait a year to grab them, stupid.

The SEC hanging there at 13 is the one kink in the works that can F it all up again. Hopefully they poach just one team from a league that can easily add a comparable team without making gigantic domino effect. Nobody thinks they mean to be 13 forever.

IMO - BYU, Pitt and one more now. Arkansas and 3 others a few years out to go to 16.

Would be cool if one of those, now or later, was ND.

hmm...

BYU makes too much sense not to happen, especially when they're open to football only.

Central Florida would be insane not to join a BCS league if given an offer, the ACC, Big East and SEC are already in their footprint and the Big Ten is highly unlikely.

So assuming that's the 11, what would be 12? I'm wondering if the B12/Big East meetings didn't include some sort of agreement to not try to subtract from each other and create more of a mess. That would take prime targets Louisville and TCU out. I think Pitt is smoke and mirrors anyway.

I'll get grilled for it, but if that's the scenario, Houston might make the most sense. I don't see Memphis or Boise. AFA maybe outside chance if BYU made it clear in negotiations they wanted a closer travel destination.

If we are indeed courting someone from Florida, even UCF, that would be a great get IMO. UCF has a huge base.
