i don't think prohm is a transfer kind of guy. i see him going the high school route for 95% of our recruits going forward. besides, the transfer market is so crowded now, all the best ones will go to other schools anyway.

maybe we can get a juco this spring but other than that, i bet prohm just does what he's always done and recruit high school kids.

Prohm has signed 11 kids in his time as isu coach and 3 of them have been transfers. I agree that market is more populated now and that we'll probably see less transfers come to isu than under Hoiberg. I still think 1 in every 4 or 5 signees being a transfer is a good goal for this staff.

Prohm had transfers at Murray and I anticipate him recruiting that market at ISU on a going forward basis. The problem last Spring was that the JC and Grad Transfer pool for bigs was absolutely terrible. Hopefully, it won't be that bad this Spring and Prohm can get a quality transfer big signed this Spring.

He's not going to go 95% HS (19 of 20), with no in-state recruiting base to draw from.

I see it more like 60% HS, 20% Juco, 20% Transfer.

We will probably get 1-2 min this year (either Juco or transfer). Last year he signed 2 Juco (1 didn't make it), and we took 3 transfers.

Those numbers will probably go down, but they will still be a significant part of our team.

Agree.

And it's not like we were getting the most desirable and best transfers under Fred. We often got talented, but discounted goods with things that would make a lot of schools back away.

Prohm actually took a bunch of transfers at Murray. I counted 5 or 6 that played key roles in his last few years there.

Also, he's said that he didn't want a huge freshman class this year, so I bet we'll take a couple of transfers this offseason. Especially if Simeon and Kasongo haven't progressed as desired.

Sounds like a good plan... In the end I just want the most talented players though and if that is a Grad Transfer first then that should be where the scholarship goes to. Especially since they are likely to contribute right away over players coming from JC/HS due to the jump in opponent talent and age.
With 3 scholarships available I think we see a mix of all three. I would like to hold one open for a mid year transfer next Dec.
If you bring in a JC player and he can't contribute right away, you shouldn't be bringing him here.

I agree. Good juco players are few and far between. Most of the good players now a days go the Prep School route if they can't get the grades out of high school.

I think you always need to keep your options open but if we can get a quality post in the 2018 class such as Race Thompson, 2017 may be the last year we need to hope for a grad transfer to fill a need for a while.

A 2017 PG? Well that's interesting. That team also has 6-7 Jeromy Rodriguez who ISU has shown interest in. Maybe they are there to see him too.

A profile I saw online lists him as 6'4" with a 3 pt shot. Also, a JUCO I believe though I'm not 100%

I think Prohm is always going to want at least 2 guards that can shoot, dribble and attack the basket to be on the court at all times.

From the sounds of things (6'4" and listed as a PG) he is likely viewed as a combo guard.

After looking at needs. I think we need another shooter next season so this makes sense. Plus he can play a little point guard

I think we could use a good shooter, possibly a bigger wing type player, although I think that can be Lewis, and then a few bigs.

The team does lose Matt and Naz's shooting. Jackson is ISU only B12 tested threat next year. There is potential in Long and Weller-Babb becoming reliable fromm 3pt range but that is a projection. Wigginton and McNeil can shoot but will be freshman. I could see Prohm having interest in a shooter at this point especially if he were microwave type like McGee was for CFH out of JC.
