I think our staff needs production faster than what Epperson would likely give you.

He may have a high ceiling, but probably not ready to help much for 1-2 years.

I'd have to think our staff likes our chances with Yetna at this point, then want some older guys for the last 2 spots.

If the staff takes another prep for 2017 Yenta has been my preference at this point of the names mentioned. I was hoping the staff would get him for a visit to Hilton if the are seriously considering him. There is still time for that though. I haven't seen any favorites for him yet but he has been gaining a few more D-1 offers recently.

any big with production is going to be choosing amongst all the blue bloods. we need to sign a couple kids like this that might turn into something, like all the bigs we like at competitor b12 schools. that TCU center was like 190lbs in juco and now he's legit.

Thik Bol part Duex. Likely end up in the Valley.

I'd take a Thik Bol level player on next years team and we couldve used him on on this seasons squad.

Bol is averaging 8.9ppg 7.4rpg and 2.2 blocks. Put up decent numbers against P5 schools too, 9pts 12 rbs vs Arkansas, 15 & 7 against Minnesota, 6 & 1 against Louisville and 13 & 10 vs Drake (common opponent)

Touché. I didn't think Bol was a P5 level player and neither did many others based on offers. Hope this staff strikes a bit more gold with their future big men recruiting.

He probably isn't. Southern Illinois is terrible and one of the worst defensive teams in the country

FWIW here's what Prohm looks for in recruiting. Aligns with his targets over the past few years. Focus on guards (PG and Combo) and rim runner shot blocking bigs.
Safe to devalue the Edozie/Ernst type players for ISU in the future (though I am sure it'll still be a topic)

@Stanz51 Point guard play is first.

@Stanz51 Steve Prohm said finding big guys that run the floor and put pressure on the rim is second biggest thing he looks for in recruiting.

I got to see Bol play quite a bit and I agree, as a shot blocker, he was legit but his size (weight) and the rest of his game were too big a risk. In hindsight, knowing we got Bowie and Holden, Bol would have totally been worth the risk, he's in their category but no way to know that back then. I've only seen Lake once this year(he rode the bench due to fouls) so I can't comment much on him but physically, he looks more like a p5 big than Bol. That's whats getting him the p5 looks IMO.

It's reasonable, if not needed, that your hindsight isn't as good as a Big 12 staffs foresight.

There are overlooked guys that can help, even if because we otherwise have a hole, and for ISU to be successful we need a staff that is apt in finding them.

In regards to Lake, he's an active Big 12 level athlete that under the right coach and team could help, but right now I'm sure the staff is hopeful they can find someone better. Let's hope that we're more successful in that than the past few springs.

I think the thing about Iowa State recruiting that drives me most batty is not going hard after kids in Missouri. They have some good talent and only one team U of M in state. Never understood why we never go after Kansas City kids when it's 3 hours down the road and they have talent down there. Also, why don't we go after an AAU coach with some young talent that he can coach in a few years and get a few prized recruits like every other school in the country tries to do. oh well

Here are two MO kids that the staff is hard after:

I'll be honest, I can't name a single player out of Kansas City that has been worth mentioning.

Is there that much talent? Seems like KU would be tough to beat for the top guys. Guys like Tyler Cook, we did go after, but just didn't get.

I'd go after KC kids just as an excuse to expense the BBQ dinners.
