Georges was a pretty unique player. We would have had a better chance of making the final four that year after Georges got hurt, if we had a couple solid backups over 6'8". Hogue and Ejim weren't going to cut it against Drummond and their 7 foot center.
To compete against KU and to be a consistent top 3 program in the Big 12, the coaches need to make sure we have solid guard play and 3-4 solid post players. We can't realistically compete in the Big 12 starting a 6'7"(?) center in Bowe and a 6'4" power forward in Burton. Hopefully the trio of Young, Lard and Kasongo is a good start. If we can add a couple JUCO post players this spring, we should be solid next season.
C'mon dude really? Big 12 player of the year Melvin Ejim wasn't enough because he didn't fit the 6'10" do-everything fever dream? If you listed the best post players in the last 15 years of ISU basketball, it'd be littered with guys below 6'7. Fizer was only 6'6 or so, do we not want him now cause he's too small to compete against the blue bloods?
And Andre Drummond wasn't on the team we lost to in the Sweet 16, Drummond was on the UConn team with Jeremy Lamb that we absolutely demolished in Royce's year because none of their big plodding centers could keep up with our smaller but athletic smallball big men.
