Yeah, obviously Culver is priority A for your defense, and Mooney is probably priority B, but not a lot of scary guys after that (the Italian kid has looked tough at times, but not tough enough to game plan around). Multiple guys that can get you twenty any given night is probably the biggest area lacking with Texas Tech this year.

I liked that we played Culver straight up and stuck to the other guys rather than trying to take away Culver and having someone else step up to beat us.

Yeah, Culver is going to get his almost regardless of what you do (though Nick did a great job on him). Really solid player.

NCAA tourney. Preferably not the play-in games and maybe a step above that is not the 8/9 line.
Guessing that would be approx middle of the pack B12 team or low end of it. 3rd place would be around 5/6 seed? Pure speculation. Ones reaction to the season so far directly correlates to one's expectations. Mine are higher so my feelings on those close losses are more sever.

Feel that the B12 is down this year. Don't think KU is as good as last KU teams, it looks good on the resume but don't think Tech is the 8th best team in the country, also just not as many good teams in the league this season.

What are you expectations now 5 games in?

A 5/6 seed would be fantastic for this group.

Over the years, now and again I've wondered why Johnny's teams were so extreme between home and road ... it has come up on fan boards through the years, every now & again.

I don't know if the style of play simply "didn't travel well," like the up-tempo aspects worked well at Hilton because of being fueled by momentum and crowd feedback, when those details aren't present away from home, or what it was. For whatever reason it seems like the difference of W's between home/away/neutral seemed unusual when consider in a 1.5-decade span. (Not like the sample size was small).

Almost all CBB teams do better at home, that's typical. Was there a wider difference for JO's team compared to average? Or is that just because I paid closer attention to it.

The only time he tried size was during Big Vic’s run, and that team fell apart the offseason after their sophomore year. And then with Julo and Loren at the end. He inherited Ron falensheck who was not built for the way he played

Other than that he had Sam Hill and David Moss, He made Lafester a center too.

It was just an incomplete roster period. Too small. And refs.

Still think we have a shot at the conference title. We need to win out at home (I think we'll be favored at home here on out) but I expect at least 2 losses on the road, realistically 3. 13-5 good enough to win this league?

Not sure.

A regular season conference title at ISU is really rare so looking at things historically, they probably won't do it.

They also should not have counted that 3 pointer on the foul under the basket.

Ideally, I would like to think that these refs go back and watch these games as a group and they see things like, "Oh, that Jacobson foul was well before the three pointer so it should have been no basket, just ball out of bounds. I need to be more aware on those plays. And Pete, you were way too fast on that 5 second call. You need to practice your count, time it and get it right. "

But, yeah, I'm sure that happens. LOL. They couldn't care less about any mistakes they make. Collect paycheck, move on to next game.

Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if 13-5 wins the conference outright this year. If we can get to 6-3 at the halfway point of the conference season I will be very happy. The back end of the conference is challenging but you are done playing Kansas and only have Tech at home.

Good ol' Falenschek. :) You're totally right, he was not a good fit for what Orr wanted to do. Regardless, he was Massive. :)

I recall bits 'n' pieces from Johnny's first season, he infused hype & hope, but it took a while for him to develop a roster that was conducive to his vision.

I remember Ron-F, I think power-forward and backup center was John Kunnert (nicknamed "The Mummy," his legs appeared to be held together only by athletic tape), Lefty Moore, Robert Estes, Ron Ness, maybe Chuck Harmison (or had he graduated the year before)?

Were Ron Harris and Terrance Allen freshman that season, or was that the following year.

Where Are They Now from JO's first 2 or 3 years would fascinate me.

Allen and Harris were his first recruits and played in Johnny's first year. It was Jon Ness -- great shooter from Roland-Story, I believe, but they had to play a zone when he was in as he wasn't very quick, as I recall. Harmison was the year before.

Robert Estes was a good scorer.

Before the season started I felt this team would be one of the 3 best B12 teams. Opinion hasn't changed even after the losses. What were your expectations?

Didn't give up on the season, that's what you and other posters inferred since I said something that was slightly negative. I used hyperbole in my poor attempt at humor but the main point of my post is honest. That streaming pile the team laid on the court VS KSU killed my excitement. This win against TTU was great but can't overcome that stinker by itself. Now if they beat OSU and Ole miss I'll prob get warm and fuzzy feelings again. Right or wrong that's how I feel.

It wasn’t slightly negative bro. And you will be right back there when we lose again (probably Monday)

Ronnie Harris was his first recruit. He was a post player in high school. But was only 6’3ish. Too small to play down low in college.

Allen was there too, I remember his alley oop dunk off a pass from Hornacek against Iowa the first time Johnny beat them. Stevens fouled out, and got a technical, Johnny threw him on the bench.

Game looked over, but they found a way. The early onset of Hilton Magic.

I remember falensheck getting a technical for hanging on the rim the in Iowa city. That was an ugly game.
