Rewatched the game, really noticed how TCU defenders hold all the receivers. I mean so much, it has to be a technique taught to them. They grab an arm as soon as they get close. And when a receiver makes a cut, they use that hold to slow him down and also to help pull themselves in the same direction so as to stay with the receiver.

It's really effective if the refs are not going to call it, which they didn't. We even had one play from about the 10, a slant route I think to Hutchinson, would have been a touchdown. TV announcer even replayed it and said "that's just cheating." Happened all game long.

Another thing I see in the replay, our secondary still has a lot to learn. Not sure if this 8-man zone is going to work this year. Nobody actually covers anyone. They all just back into an area.

TCU receivers were open all day. Texas Tech will throw for 600 yards on us if we play like we did Saturday. I mean, TCU got 400 yards with poor QB play. We had one real pass breakup per the game stats. They threw 40 passes and we actually deflected just one. Secondary must change if we are going to be a good defense this year. Just my observation.

Well in zone defense you do cover an area. They did it extremely poorly though.

Well, that was my point, I guess I didn't expand on it. Mostly they just backed up and stood there, they didn't look for anyone to go cover. They just stood in a spot and hoped a receiver with an incoming pass would happen to run into them. That's how it looked, anyway.

On one play, TCU had third and 5. Our defender lined up 5 yards off the line of scrimmage and then backed up about three yards on the snap. The receiver ran out 5 yards, turned and caught the ball and still fell forward for a 7-yard gain before our defender recovered and got to him. You will give up 3rd down almost every time if that is how loosely you are going to play. I just don't remember Heacock's defense being this lax with covering the other team's receivers.
