Please list all of the players on the team who would have been able to take his and DG's places, if we took them both out like you suggest. You may overestimate our depth just a bit.

You have no clue how much effort they put in, nor do any of us.

This isn't little league. Regardless of how much effort is put out by the players or coaches, it is not working and its time for a change. You can bring out a laundry list of excuses, but thats all they are.

The arguments on both sides just get tiring. I am to the point that I do not care anymore to watch the replay over and over of the same brand of crappy basketball. If we do not expect more, we will not get more. Plain and simple. If some can live on moral victories and think that not making a move is going to change things next year, more power to you. I will become a bigger BF fan. I expect next year for womens bball to exceed mens in attendance. I will not bore you with my story of becoming uninterested in the program as they are a dime a dozen now adays and even long time supporters are turning on this program as the story is always the same in these games. What can anyone honestly look forward to next year with GMAC at the helm?

You could have simply stated that mens ISU basketball sucks.

I've been thinking about it and I think the month of February has all been a masterful coaching strategy by GM...we have been playing opossum.

Our 1-7 record during the month is actually all a ploy to position us to take everyone by surprise during March Madness as we run the table in the Big 12 Tournament to our first NCAA appearance under GM.

Brilliant!

:jimlad:

Or maybe he's trying to get the number 1 draft pick next year. :jimlad:

Great post. ++++1 on everything. We're going to end up with 3 conference wins this year, and only 17 conference wins over the last 4 years. Sure, we could clean house and win 0, 1, or 2 conference games next year and that would technically be "worse" than this year....but would it really? Our 3 wins this season are against CU and kNU. Pollard needs to sell hope. The same arguments against keeping Lickliter in Iowa City apply here to McDermott.

Do you want to average four wins for the next six years since it looks like we are consistent.

We are getting very close to this right now. Just got home from the womens game tonight. I wish there was an actual attendance count of people in the seats, not paid attendence, but people in the seats. The women had a great crowd tonight. I bet it was very close to the actual attendance for the Nebraska game last week.

This point wins on so many levels.

Iowa State fans will show and support teams. Even with train wreck of a season, there are still 8000-8500 people showing up.

Bill wins games, and that is the reason people go to the games. But, even the years when we weren't all that good, people had been trained to support the team. They showed up because Bill had bought their good will because he had been damn successful.

The problem with the men's team is that there has been no success since hiring this coach. After this season, there is no real way to sell hope at this point. Look at the team that was coming in this year, read back through the posts. Greg put all of his eggs in this season's basket to either buy time, or get a better offer somewhere.

How do you lose CB and MG, and sell hope for next year? Take it a step further, what is even positive in this program now? He has done a great job politicking the big basketball donors, and they all follow ONE person's lead anyway, and Greg has endeared himself to that person enough to keep him around. Plus Pollard has kept him and Greg close.

The problem is that Greg has painted himself into the unenviable corner of having to win games to bring people back. The loss of revenue will be grinned and beared by Pollard. He will do everything he can not to pull the trigger.

Colorado men drew less than 7000 people today.

And that is all part of GM's strategy...don't foul on defense and rely on the 3 on offense. We are doing exactly what he wants and the results suck.

Don't let the facts get in the way of making up statements to sell your agenda. Otherwise you might have to explain why the leading scorer is a post player and that the opponents shoot far more 3 pointers than Iowa State does.

I will agree that the results have lagged, but the primary strategy is clearly to feed the post on offense. It would also be idiotic to advocate trying to foul more when you are dealing with a short handed roster.

That is 5 per cent inflation in a depressed economy. Actually he is one of the lowest paid conference coaches.

I don't know any of these numbers but if this is true we are certainly getting what we have paid for. Having said that, there are not many jobs that have a pay scale where the "lowest paid" is around 7 figures.

You are dead wrong.

Go look back at a thread from last Sunday that was started by a poster that thought Pollard was trying to use the announcers at last Saturday's game (not yesterday) to spin ISU fans by giving them info comparing the beginning of the GM era to that of the JO era.

At some point, one poster posted a link to the game notes that the SID passes out to all media before the game. All you have to do is read those game notes to know that the focus of the GM game plan is to rely on threes on offense and try to minimize fouling of defense.

I have it on PDF but do not know how to download it here and I do not have the time to go back and find the old thread.

But you are dead wrong!

Actually, his base will be $850,000 next year. It goes up 50,000 each year no matter what.

I was under the impression that once again next season would be considered his first. My mistake in thinking that his pay would follow that line of thought.

Did you read the post that was quoted at all? The post called for SC to be pulled (and his previous post had requested that both SC and DG be pulled), and my response asked, "To be replaced with whom?" There's no excuse there, it's asking - "What are the current alternatives?" You can talk about change all you want, the posts in question were pertaining to this season.
