Notre Dame basketball: Opening matchup with Iowa State poses sticky situation for Notre Dame's Jack Cooley - chicagotribune.com

interesting side story.

"We're able to digest a scouting report and for the most part make teams more two-point shooting teams, chase people off the arc," said Brey, whose team nevertheless ranked 11th in the Big East, allowing teams to shoot 32.2 percent from long range. "Overall, we've been pretty good when we had to take away the arc, and that Villanova game is a good reference point for us."

I would love to play Ohio State as Iowa State still has unfinish business with them when we had that two game series with them few years ago, thankfully they dont have Greg Oden type of player in the middle!!!

Notre Dame could be likened to West Virginia with a couple of better shooters. If we can keep our spacing and pass the ball well, we should be fine. If Korie has awoken from his slumber, we'll be fine. If Niang and Ejim can stay out of foul trouble, we'll be fine.

Notre Dame will have to come out with their bigs - more lane for Clyburn and Korie/Bubu to drive and kick. Niang outside could really be the wild card - just like the Kansas game in Lawrence.

I saw on one of their boards a couple guys saying they'll just play a 3-2 zone and punish us if we try to drive. I REALLY hope they do. ;-)

What's everyone's thoughts/opinions on having the late game on Friday night?

We'll be the last team to tip in the whole tournament. By the time we go the tournament will be nearly cut in half.

Does the waiting around mess with their heads or just make em more hungry?

Think it's funny how fans always suggest a 3-2 zone to defend a 3 point shooting team.

When's the last time any team ever actually used a 3-2 zone?

I guess we'll see. We've also had games where teams have done that until Georges and Melvin penetrated on the other team's bigs to break down the defense.

To me it seems that most of these publication just look at stats to write up a story or prediction based on just that, which to me, doesn't really paint the entire picture of this team. Therefore I just tend to ignore them.

In MO the best thing about playing Notre Dame is we do not have to play super fast. I think we tried to go too fast against KU and it resulted in travel calls and missed three pointers. When ISU has relaxed and just run the basic offense this year, we have scored tons of points and made fewer turnovers. Then we are very good. When Korie had lots of time from the corner he drained that three against KU. Just run the offense guys.

We are fine with that because layups are pretty easy.

Yep, down to only 33-36 teams when we finish our game. The OSU fans will be cheering for us or ND?

I'm calling for a football hangover, but since we don't play defense like 'Bama, it won't be a 28 point shellacking. Cyclones by 5 ...
