Haven't read the thread and I'm sure this isn't an original sentiment, so indulge me here.

But I'm so sick and tired of losing games the exact same way. Get a drive going, commit a dumb penalty. Take a dumb timeout because we can't get our sht together. Commit a red zone turnover. The worst special teams in college football.

This stuff has gone on for *years* and never changes. Yes, we've had some bad calls. Today might have been one. But that should not distract from the fact that from the standpoint of attention to detail and execution, we are usually a disaster - often even when we win.

The fact that 70 people aren't dumbing this makes me worry that most of you are just incredibly stupid.
I understand what your saying. Without him we are not in position to win these games. But it's fact that 3 games in a row with the game on the line he has been unable to make the big play. We probably win all 3 of those games if he makes those catches.

I mean this thread is amusing. I like a good **** on the refs post game meltdown. It's good for us to have a common enemy. It's a healthy thing for the fan base.

But the fact that several people on here are legit blaming Hutchinson is crazy to me. Just ******* crazy.
This coming from the most legit crazy poster I've experienced on CF.

I get if you would say it's not FAIR to blame him, but you can't deny what happened on that play.

This x 1000.

We pretty much are what our record says we are.... the worst team in the conference. Maybe not talent wise.... but making crucial mistakes at the worst times... having a poor offense.... and easily the worst special teams..... and it's nearly every week too.... that will make you the worst team in your conference every time.

Just think about how this game opened today.... we get the ball and almost immediately have to punt.... and the punt gets blocked and it wasn't even close (they could have just tackled our punter). You would think after all the issues we've had this year in punt protection that we might have worked on that glaring issue and have it figured out by now.... but nope. That is ENTIRELY on this coaching staff.

And constantly burning timeouts for no reason too. That cost us dearly again today, especially at the end of the game.

It's just the same crap every week. We aren't very good.

Isn't this kind of the same argument? We ARE who we are at this point. We are a team that has lost to good teams by not many points so far. We are not good enough to be 6-1 or 7-0 or even probably 5-3. But that doesn't mean we aren't that far from being decent.

If you also take into account the important catches he's made that put us anywhere close to in the games then it's a wash at worst.

I'm sure nobody wants to make those catches more than Hutch, but when he's the only guy we go to in must have situations then he's also the only guy that has the opportunity to not come through. And nobody makes every play.

Bad teams play in close games all the time. Fans fool themselves into thinking "they're so close, theyre not that bad".

I’m not going to melt down over this game. Thought we played hard and played against a big headwind (figuratively) and we went after it. Proud of the guys today.
I thiught we weren't going to cover. No moral victory but that's the most competent we've looked in conference.

Still far too many detail/margin mistakes.

Ehhh...that's kind of what fans are supposed to do though. If you want to be miserable, go ahead. If people want to maybe delude themselves into thinking we are close, then they will be happier.

I'm not sure that you are right that bad teams play close games all of the time though. WE play close games all of the time. But plenty of ****** teams get blown out a lot.

The game wasn't on the line if he made a first down on the next play with minutes to play.

We don't need a million different threads for what is bound to be a ******** of a weekend.
No meltdown here. We played pretty well, quite well I thought, good enough to win.

Should have had the chance to win in the end (seemed like targeting to me). The blue blood gets the benefit of the doubt again.

Loved to see the offensive improvement today, both in play calling, and in play. That's what I was looking for! I think the better play calling allowed the players to have a chance and to play within their collective strength or lack thereof.

From hereon, Iowa State always needs to play on the edge, play with innovation, with a lack of predictability, in order to have the best chance to win. We did a lot better (still room for improvement) in that regard today.

I hope it is a lesson learned. We'll see.

Also CF armchair QB’s NEVER take in to account fitness, fatigue, etc. they just say “these guys should be in better shape! Why do they get tired aren’t they running sprints in practice?”.

Breaking news: athletes at every level get tired, fatigued, knocks and Knicks that can affect performance. I imagine it’s worse for X than any other player on our squad. Dude runs around and gets the ball A LOT. He’s taking way more hits than anyone else.
