I see your point, but two things really stick out to me. First, what have you seen so far that could possibly lead you to believe we will have a good season? 2 losses to MVC teams, a couple real close wins against vastly inferior talent. Second, there are so many areas of the game that scream poor coaching. A lack of effort, lack of rebounding, a lack of comprehension of time and situation, a lack of adjustments, etc.

I think the last 3 minutes says a lot about the state of this team. No coach with any grip on his team lets those guys take those shots. A well coached team knows the difference between a good shot and a bad shot, given time and situation. We have no concept of that.

Exact same thing that Wayne Morgan was rightly criticized for.

Have to admit the best coach in the Iowa Big Four is at UNI. Maybe Fred will get there, and the team shows flashes of playing like a college team, but mostly these guys look like they are still playing in the Cap City League and NBA wannabe's.

UNI is a bad match up for this team? You are ******* stupid. If this Cyclones team had any heart, hussle, passion and fundamentals they would smoke UNI. I am sorry this coaching period, Fred needs to be more aggressive on the sidelines and sit players that are not producing. Oh but please lets keep making excuses as to why we suck right now. Not melting down just telling it like it is I was Grand Valley State and after that game knew we were in trouble.

Last year's team was better.

Your right on Wes last years team was better, played better defense and looked like a basketball team on most nights....

Last 6 games UNI 5 & Hapless Ia State 1.....

This basketball team deserves to lose the way they play defense and cant rebound cant shoot the three and cant drive to the basket and finish....

Lazy. No effort. Probably a great pickup team. Freddie's coaching looks a lot like Morgan...Wayne's players had a slightly higher level of heart. No Magic.

Why does everyone think Wayne Morgan sucked or something? Give me a ******* break. His WORST season actually, is better than any season we've had since, even if you're counting conference play. His worst coached conference year was our best in the last 5 seasons. OH YEAH HE SUCKED SO MUCH GUYS

First year: 20-13, 7-9 in conference. NIT Semifinals. Wins over #14 Kansas, #11 Texas, Georgia, Florida State, Marquette.

Second year: 19-12. 9-7 in conference. 2nd round NCAA tournament. Wins over Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas, #16 Texas Tech, #15 Kansas. Lost to North Carolina in 2nd round, who won NCAA Championship.

Third Year: 16-14. 6-10 in conference. No HUGE wins, but some nice conference ones still. Lost a lot of close games.

He never had a losing season, got us to the post season TWICE and the third season we turned down an NIT bid because Morgan thought we screwed up too many times, so it could have been 3 times.

We haven't had a winning season since Morgan left and you're going to say this guy is a bad coach too when he got us to the post season twice in three years and never had a losing season? Get the **** out of here.

I was worried when Lutz left and we didn't go hire another experienced, veteran coach. My fears have been validated.

Explain to me why this coaching staff doesn't deserve criticism? Because Fred is our hero? This is what I was afraid of when we hired him... he can't be criticized.

UNI is schooling us big time on everything about how to play basketball correctly.

If Fred isn't coaching it, it's his fault. If his players that he mostly brought in are lazy.... that's also his fault. It's his job to put together the team too.

Right now, this is a failure. No other way to explain it. And Fred doesn't look like he cares either. I'm sure he does, but his players are playing like he coaches.

Sorry. It hurts me to say it because I love Fred Hoiberg. But he has some serious issues he needs to address right now.

I actually am really liking UNI right now. I should be hating them, but they are just so much more enjoyable to watch play the game right now than we are. They play it the way it's supposed to be played. We don't. You tell me who has to answer for that?

UMMMMM because its his 2nd year of coaching basketball EVER!! And no, playing basketball in the NBA doesnt automatically make you an awesome coach all the sudden. It takes time just like everything does. Jesus clonedude you really **** me off

People need to realize how this season will play out unless we seriously man-up on defense:

1. Shoot well - win the game
2. Shoot poorly - lose the game

The team just doesn't have the desire to play defense. They think they can just outscore the other team based on their talent alone.

UNI is a bad matchup for this team...at least where it sits today.

No they aren't. They're a bad matchup in the fact that they are good and we suck. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm sick of excuses for this garbage.

Until I see something to prove me wrong, I will have to accept the fact that UNI is by far the better team. They are more skilled basketball players than us.... period. They owned Royce White on the inside. Their guards owned ours all night on both ends. They move better, they hustle better, they pass better, they shoot better, their inside guys have post moves, and they play with desire and passion. Oh... and they are coached MUCH better too.

Other than that, I guess we were just upset by an inferior team, right? 5 wins out of the last 6. Yep, that's the case. Riiiiiiiighhht.

Step up to the plate people. This team is bad. Maybe there's a reason these guys had to transfer here.... they aren't that good.... and they are extremely lazy on both ends of the floor. It's not tolerated at other schools I guess?

Someone made a great point earlier. It was well reported last year how the transfers would say "We won't let that happen next year...". It's next year, and they are letting it happen.

This. Shots weren't falling tonight.

My obvious take:

UNI is a very, very well coached team and much more disciplined than us. We could have easily won this game with a better defensive effort. Even though our shooting wasn't great tonight, the game was very much in reach, but too many times we let UNI do a nice spin in the post or find the wide open man for a 3.
