At the sake of getting thrown into the "moral victory crowd" - all losses are not the same. There are losses like FSU in 2002 that give a team confidence and provide the fanbase hope and excitement. Then there are losses like tonight. People that can't see the difference are clueless.

Confidence that propelled us to. 7-6 season with some huge and terrible losses at the end of the season?

Or other big losses (Missouri and A&M come to mind) where the team rebounded and showed they were an anomaly?

This game was terrible and we played terrible. But it's just one loss in a game no one thought we were going to win anyway. It sucks but on to the next one.

a tipping point? going from mediocre to bad for a season happens sometimes when you lose a ton. we really sucked for a while now but we had the D to keep out head above water. don't worry so much we will become mediocre once more I promise you.

I thought we had a good chance at being an 8 win team last year with the defense we had. The offense doesn't seem to bail out the defense again this year. Sucks.

But the AD hires the coach he needs to be accountable. Yet isn't it the President of the university who is responsible for the department heads? We need answers and the president answers to the Board of Regents. The governor and Senate have some explaining to do on why these jack holes are still allowed to let out football program be run into the ground. But aren't these guys elected by the General public of Iowa? Clearly ISU football sucks because Iowans are incompetent.

I'm not all that big on meltdowns. There's only one word that comes to my mind after a game like yesterday's...

However, consider this...as bad/angry/frustrated/disappointed/whatever as each of us feels, there are over 100 young men who feel a whole helluva lot worse right now, and I expect that their coaches don't feel much better. Try to keep that in mind when bashing the team...

Anyone who has played or coached knows how easy it is to have a game end up like this. Once the ball starts rolling on a blowout it's darn hard to stop. You're beat mentally and it just snowballs. I'm not sure another close loss would have been any better for the moral of our team. They can look at this game and say Baylor is just way better than us and move on mentally. A close one would gnaw at them for the whole week with the what ifs. Not saying this is a good loss by any means. We were just flat terrible. For the team it might be better mentally than another nail biter.

Pollyanna's can suck it. After sitting through the 80's and 90's I've earned the right to melt down. Below are randomly assembled thoughts. I don't have the energy to write a beautifully organized masterpiece and this team is not worth my time.

-Northern Iowa has turned out to be pretty mediocre

-Iowa would never...NEVER...lose a game like this because as much as we all love to hate them, they have pride.

-Tavern Hoks...I guess they chose the right team.

-In two years this program has gone from upsetting the #2 team in the country to a school record-setting loss. I'd be willing to bet that's never happened.

-If there is futility to be found, ISU will find it. No matter who the coach is.

-Maybe it really can't be done here. The facilities are here. The TV money is here. The sellout crowds are here (or were.)

-In two years we've gone from at least being competitive and respectable to being a LAUGHINGSTOCK. A PUNCHLINE. AGAIN.

-Everything CPR built his first three years is gone. ALL OF IT.

-Every potential recruit who watched last night has scratched ISU off his list.

-Every commit is reconsidering.

-As much we we like the jolly old man Wally Burnham, he is terrible. So what if he produces linebackers and DB's that will hit you hard. He's never put anything on the field but a defense that can be cut like hot butter.

-Maybe CPR really was doing it with Chizik's recruits.

-Emotion and passion can only take you so far.

-Forget the SEZ now.

-It's 1980 again. I fear 20 more years like the 80's and 90's. I didn't think it was possible to go back to that place but now I think it is. Anyone else remember? Empty stadiums. No enthusiasm.

-No point in firing CPR, though. It's become evident that it's not possible to have success here. Might as well just ride it out.

-Would not be surprised to see us kicked out of Big XII in the next decade. We bring NOTHING to the conference. No significant TV viewers, no money, no competitive football program. Hate to admit what others have been saying all along, but we are riding coattails.

A loss like this is unacceptable. We all knew that Baylor is an offensive juggernaut, and I don't think any of us expected to match Baylor score for score, but to score only 7 points, and that being really in garbage time? 7 points. Heads need to roll for this embarrassment. It is time to make some type of change or at least start planning for a change.

I really don't see Messingham or anyone on the offensive side of the ball keeping their job. Seriously, it is really bad. The offense was supposed to be the bright spot (relative) this year. The defense had lost a lot of players, so we expected that to be the weak part of our team. To have our offense not show up and just be really ineffective for a lot of our games this year, is terrible.

There needs to be accountability.

Wow, that is quite the meltdown. Probably what a lot of people are fearing. I have those same fears as well. I'm thinking it CAN'T be done in Ames in football. Add in the fact that the conference is dysfunctional and making new lows as we speak, and I fear that we'll find ourselves out of the mix when the 64-team configuration is enacted as well.

Maybe that's for the best. We can all pour our time, energy and money into MBB so maybe we can break through there
