Surprised Grill is that high. Seems like he is 5-7 or 1-8. Weird shot- very flat, very quick.

No stats or research, but seems to me that when he catches the ball with his feet already set, he is money. If he has to catch and square, then no so much. That's my perception anyway.

My perception is that he is streaky and needs something else good to happen to get hot. Yesterday he came out on defense and made a bunch of tough plays on that end it got him in to the game.

The Grill needs gas before it starts firing off the Ribeyes.

Mizzou was lucky making shots in the first half, that was it. They played pretty dumb actually. The icing on the dumb cake was the 10 second back court call with us giving zero pressure.
Two additional times they let the shot clock runout with no urgency/complete unawareness

You are correct. Combine your two lines and that's 6/15 which is 0.400 compared to the 0.396 season rate

That game was the definition of one of those games where a superior opponent comes out of half, says enough screwing around, and completely buries their opponent in the first eight minutes --

Nice to be the team inflicting this on somebody instead of on the receiving end of it.
Agreed. They were shooting a very high percentage and us very low. But we were turning them over and rebounding well. You knew things were going to even out in the second half shooting.
we went on 25-5 run in less than 10 minutes if game time across very end of first half and 11+ left in the second. And as has been discussed a lot recently, that is a nearly insurmountable deficit to come back from against this team.

His outside shot needs a lot of work though.

agree. His lack of three point shooting right now allows defense to play him a little differently. If he could even get to around 35% it would make the rest of his game easier for him. And it’s clear the rest of his game is really strong.

I think the overall buzz about the team this year with the narratives around TJ, IB, etc is overshadowing just how good this kid is as a freshman. It’s really incredible.

I think he has the chance to be an elite college PG.

East of Neptune, IA.
Hunter's three % is the lowest on the team but many of the those shots have been been forced because of the shot clock. I think he'll come around.
Don't know what to think about Gabe when he jacks them up. Numbers say he should concentrate on driving to the basket and mid-range jumpers.

Testifying
First time I've ever seen a 10 second violation from an unguarded player who is walking the ball up the court. Seems like a serious coaching issue to me.
Martin wasn't even yelling to get the player to move quicker.

those of us that watched last year’s games got to witness one of our players do exactly that and it was infuriating. That’s why, I’m glad the “look how good that player is doing at his new school”talk has stopped.

If the PG is the worst 3P shooter on the team it's his responsibility to make sure he doesn't have the ball 25 feet from the basket as the shot clock is expiring.

I believe that has happen to us a couple of times this year.
I don’t think we’ve had a 10 second violation with no press set up while walking it up. We’ve had violations when teams were pressing though.

I feel like I've seen it quite a bit in college bball in general more than other years and wonder if there's some new wrinkle to presses or something.

It’s the “baiting” that happens I think. Where the ball handler wants to slow play it and doesn’t want to run into a trap. But you’re right, I’ve seen it multiple times this year too.

Agree about Gabe. While a good number of his misses are good shots, he doesn’t drive and score/create as much as he could/should given that it’s often successful.

respectfully disagree about Tyrese. He has not had many 3s that are late in the clock. Most are just him missing open looks.

Agree. I’ve never seen that happen without an effective press from the other team. The only exception was one after a jump ball where I think we didn’t realize the shot clock and backcourt clock don’t reset after you keep possession on a tie up (can’t remember which game but I clearly remember the play).

Martin is so overrated. That was not a well coached team on the floor today. They played aggressive defensive and they have some athletes but they weren't strong mentally. I do think he would be a great replacement for Fran in Iowa City when they run him out though.

If you thought Carver was empty now...

I call that the Tyronn Lue. I remember him doing that at Hilton in the '90s. The crowd went nuts. I hated playing those Danny Nee teams.
