At halftime I would have bet anybody 100 bucks that we would lose the game. We came back and won and it surprised me so I'm very happy with it. That walk back to the car would have been bitter and sad had we lost. Instead we got to talk about Brackins stuffing it in traffic. It was a fun one, too bad there were probably 7k people there TOPS.

Those 7k really proved how eager/ready we are as fans for our team to win. It got plenty excited and noisy at key times.

The cold seemed less bitter after the win. It would have felt horrible after a loss.

I really thought we'd pull it out, even at halftime, because I just didn't think that NU could keep up their shooting. Turns out that they didn't exactly drop off a lot, except from behind the arc, but we weren't backing down.

Try looking at it this way. They had the opportunity for a maximum of one win tonight and that is exactly what they got.

Drawing a conclusion like this from a 4 point win over Nebraska in Hilton seems like a stretch, just like ripping the team for a win seems inappropriate. Just enjoy the win, for what it is, a win.

I am happy we won because I am an Iowa State fan. I don't understand the people that hope we lose to get Greg fired. That decision will be made regardless of whether or not we win another game this year.

Having said that, you knew this was going to happen. All of the people who have put their heart and soul into Greg McDermott haven't had a lot to crow about over the past four years.

In all fairness they have had to sit here and get bombarded by people that don't like him as the coach of Iowa State with facts such as his record for the last two months. I am sure that has been tough to take.

Now they get a win, even though it was to a last place team missing two players, and all of the troubles vanish. There are people in this thread saying that we have turned the corner, and the players are finally listening to the coaches. Like not listening to the coach was the problem in all of those consecutive losses.

But these are the same people that will give all the credit to the coach when we win a game. When we lose, it's the players not listening, or the fans having too high of expectations for a school where taking the coaching job is career suicide, or bad luck (my personal favorite).

I really think for these people that this will only be Greg McDermott's program when he wins 25 games. Until then, he is blameless.

My own opinion is that he has put a lousy product on the floor in large part due to the fact that he has never found a consistent message as to what his program will be about. Until he does that, this program will continue to spin its wheels, and not grow.

You seem sensitive. It could simply be that he's our coach, so "some of us" continue to back him enthusiastically, because he's our guy.

I'll guarentee... he was cocky/confident. He knew that if he worked hard, how good he could be. All athletes have to have this to some extent.

Cocky and confident are two very different things. Truly great athletes are cool and confident and are within themselves both in the game and in their personal lives. They are disciplined, hard-working, motivated, detailed, and humble. A cocky athlete will quickly fall from greatness or fail to reach greatness at all. Do I need to give you a bunch of examples of that?

NO ONE has put their heart and soul into Coach McDermott. We've put our heart and soul into the Iowa State Cyclones.

You aren't saying anything new that wasn't said at the end of the McCarney era, or the Eustachy era, or heck even the Criner and Walden and Orr eras.

Just so you know, the end of the Johnny Orr era was different in that people still loved the guy, and appreciated that he rescued the program from the wilderness. They just saw that he had a team that was going to be all seniors, and they were worried that if he coached that team, it would be harder to attract a coach to completely start from scratch.

And Johnny, being the TRUE Cyclone that he was stepped down. That team would have won more games with him than they did completely revamping their style to fit Tim Floyd's. Johnny could have been selfish, but always remember he will never quit cheering "Go Cyclones!"

"our" is a plural word, unless you have the idea that I have multiple personalities there.

Mac coaches the Cyclones. As Cyclone fans, that makes him our guy.

I haven't been on here since yesterday, so I guess I haven't seen how this thread has played out.

My own comment on the game is that it played out just like several of the previous games - with the lone exception that we won it. We got down early, and then early again in the second half - proceeded to make a furious comeback to draw even, and then either A) hold on for dear life for the victory, or B) fade late and lose by 8-15 points.

Fortunately, last night we won.

On a side note, I love to amaze my non-ISU friends by telling them prior to the game exactly how it will play out. They are actually quite stunned that our games follow such a predictable pattern. Seriously.

Lastly, great to finally get a win. i hope we can snag 2 more at a minimum to finish with a .500 record or better.

Greg McDermott is the head coach of the Iowa State Men's Basketball team, thus he IS "Iowa State's guy".

Are you serious? Coaching has nothing to do with having success on the court. There are only two things that can be credited with the win tonight:

1) The players played well...coaches don't shoot the shots or play defense.

2) We finally got some good luck to go our way...coaching is mostly about getting lucky (and cheating).

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or serious.

If you are being serious, then McDermott isn't to blame for the losses either.
